Are you sure that "artisanal" is really an adjective?

Right place...? Is there such a thing? Cool I lived in Santa Monica California for years and by the sea. Lived there for the beauty and to be by the beach\ocean.

Here it is the same for me. Live by the Sea and have a spectacular view. Never was in for the trendy places where ever they may be or which ever city I am in.

It is all a state of mind... Where I live now is quite historical and that is what turns me on. Couldn't imagine living in the city center. Near all the turmoil or traffic. Give me peace and quiet.

Do what you feel not what people tell you is cool.

ekmece certainly isn't cool.

I agree about doing what you feel-we should celebrate out diversity and embrace each other. Stop and chat with the artisans, buy a carpet, sip hot, sweet tea as you celebrate your diversity, hug a Kurd, kiss a gypsy and enjoy.
Shocked

Although I too sometimes wish I was closer to the 'happening' places when its late at night and I want to go out for a drink and hear some music. Where I live its harder at night to get out and do something. As its a bit sketchy to go out by yourself late.

Would like to know Tunel area and Beyoglu better. Realize there is alot of great places to go to that I havent a clue about yet.

Bit by bit I am learning this city. Wish I had a car too.

Cool

artisan |ˈrtizən| noun a worker in a skilled trade, esp. one that involves making things by hand. DERIVATIVES artisanal |-zənl| adjective ORIGIN mid 16th cent.: from French, from Italian artigiano, based on Latin artitus, past participle of artire instruct in the arts, from ars, art- art.

Thrifty, it was in my computer's dictionary, so it must be at least somewhat real.

Well...I live in Fatih 'cause I get to wake up in the morning, look out of the window and say 'Ah yes - I live in Constantinople'.

Also, the people from my neighbourhood commute into your neighbourhood to steal. The crime flows out, not in. Smile

That said, nice places beyond the bustle....The European shore of the Bosphorus is worth looking into - certainly, affordable places could be found in places like Sarıyer a few years ago, just a single, regular bus route away from Taksim.

Once the metro connection exists, dear old Uskudar and Kadıky are going to be a brief stop away from the centre; until then, the ferry link is affordable and not too much of a drag (crossing the Bosphorus twice a day on a steamer - ooh, ooh, suits you, sir!).

The Rumeli settlements like Yeni Bosna, Baheşehir...suburbia. Bland. Characterless. Regularly pillaged by my neighbours.

If you want the Notting Hill vibe, Beşiktaş is not bad, though increasingly expensive.

KumKapı, Psamatya....central, historical, still touched by Greek and Armenian culture, bohemian...

It seems strange that Fatih of all places should have an area named after a Christian emperor ...

And do you really keep saying that after 10 years of doing the same thing ...

Erm...It doesn't.

That'll teach me for trying to be poetic. Smile

Depends how rich your life is, and how deep your appreciation of the place.

Yes, I couldn't agree more ... people for whom 'Constantinople' is but a romantic dream are hardly likely to have as deep an appreciation of the city as people who rummage through historical documents in an effort to give the city's past more shape and meaning ...
