Hello all ... I've searched for information for this so forgive me if I'm posting somethign that's been done to death ...

I've got a school that wants to hire me for the term beginning in March, but this school holds a contract with a FT placement agency. Therefore to avoid possible contract violations, this school wants to offer me a position with NO contract and NO available visa sponsorship.

First off I have to say this school is legit and unlike some of the schools I've worked for in the past ... this school is not trying to give me a raw deal. So, please no replies about how "this might not be the school for me." Please and thank you.

So this begs the question: what are the options available to me to work for this school. My RP will expire in mid-March and I think I will need a tourist visa to get back into China. My thought is to transfer the L visa over to an F visa, but I don't know if this would be the appropriate course. Mainly since I will not be able to get any sponsorship from my school.

Any thoughts on how to make this visa situation work out in my favor? I'm open to ALL ideas at this point so let your minds roll on this one!

Legitimate, in the context of employment and/or schools in China, means according to the law. What the school is proposing is unlawful. Call the school believable, trustworthy or reliable if you will, but please don�t call them legit.

Wherever it is that you�re going to in March, don�t get an �L� visa. Return via Hong Kong and get a (easy-to-obtain-via-agents) 6 or 12 month �F� visa before you reenter mainland China.

Be aware that if you live off-campus, there is a definite possibility of being checked-out by the PSB.

Just remember that when you work legitimately and things go wrong you can have a hellofa mess - imagine what happens when you are working without the proper �'ANYTHING" and you find out that your school and your recruiter are now suddenly NOT YOUR FRIENDS...

Get a contract, get a visa - even if it's an F visa.

The O.P.'s question amounts to a request to have a slice of bread buttered on both sides!

What makes him assume that schools is "legit" since they are willing to shaft their partners in order to get an FT (presumably at an advantageous rate)?

Alright, no advice is wanted on this aspect (sordid in my opinion) of the prospective deal; but why ask whether an 'F' visa is the solution?

It isn't since an 'F' visa you buy in Hong Kong doesn't make you any more legal than a tourist visa does!
