Ice rinks can be found in and around Tokyo fairly easily. I'm sure it's the same for Osaka. Sapporo should have quite a few. Sendai has a couple. |

I can dial you in on some courts if you give me an area. |

i recently got hired through nova and am leaving in about six weeks. still haven't gotten a solid confirmation on where i'll be staying.. but from what it looks like so far, my destination airport will be tokyo international.... so with that said... i may be placed within the kanto area.
are most ball courts open and free to the public?? |

Yes and no. Unlike where I'm from, you can't hoop on the school courts here, though I have tried. But in the last few years I have been able to find some courts.
I bought my own goal and put it in the park near my place for a couple of years. The kids were constantly destroying it and I repairing it. And the city came and took it away one day, but I went and got it back. It was funny because the guy responsible for removing it had played with us before. He was quite embarrassed.
So, get back to me when you get yourself sorted and hopefully I can point you in the right direction.
Enjoy,

There is a public ice skating rink behind the Osaka prefecture gym in Namba. There's another one in Hirakata Park.
There are a few private gyms in Osaka that charge by the hour. One is in Higashi Osaka by Aramoto station. The other is in Yao near Kyuhoji station. I can give links to maps if anyone is interested.
Sweets, do you know of any outdoor courts in Osaka? Paved? |

Keio University, which is located in Kohoku, has a wealth of information about local sports recreation areas. There's an ice rink in Tammachi off the Toyoko line. Kohoku has a big stop on the Toyoko train line about 15 mins from Tammachi. |
