I read about MexConnect here, on the International Jobs board. When I went to the website, I noticed they post many positions and charge a placement fee.
I thought I had seen some people here expressing dissatisfaction with their services, or with their reputation, but the original thread of discussion eludes my searches.
Does anyone have any concerns (or approbations) regarding MexConnect? |

Mexconnect is a dot com, an e-zine and forums about Mexico that's been around for ages. Good place to get information on Mexico and absolutely nothing to do with the resume flogging folks. You are thinking of Teachermexconnect or Teachersmexconnect, can't recall, but the name they adopted is a little confusing to those that know Mexconnect. Try your search with both those names. |

Brilliant! Thank you...
The service doesn't sound that helpful. But did you see all the positions they are posting currently?
They claim an 80% placement rate, but that percentage isn't demonstrated in the comments here. |

I find it interesting that they can quote an 80% placement rate when they have had the same teaching positions in Punta Arenas Chile posted on their website for the past 12 months.... |

Their fee just keeps going up - they used to be "the $20.00 people" but not any more. They load up your resume and email it out to anyone and everyone. One of my friends with a little Spanish language school (no English teachers) keeps receiving junk emails from them with teacher hopeful's resumes attached. It's a crapshoot with no guarantees. It isn't difficult to locate the jobs on the net that they are posting as available. Nice little gig they have going from what I have seen. |

Wow, if they send out batches of resumes like that, it begs the question--does it actually hurt your chances of getting a job if your resume is sent by them?
The reason the site holds any allure for me is because of those elementary school positions they list in Oaxaca! I haven't seen any other sites advertising the jobs, which could mean Teachermexconnect contrived them...? |

Not all schools advertise vacancies online.
I suspect this outfit goes through the yellow pages and then send resumes out using that information. That is obviously how they got my friend's email address. She is listed as a Spanish and English school, but no English has been taught there for years. I suggest you refer to the Telmex yellow pages (the link has been posted here a few times) and contact the schools yourself. That way you aren't waiting around forever as some applicants have done.
As to your question about it hurting or helping your chances, I saw what they send out. It's not too professional, very brief "contact these qualified teachers directly", no proper introduction...just your resume with your personal data on it, no mention of the date you can start, nothing else. I wouldn't want my personal information distributed that way. And as their email wording infers, they indeed attach a bunch of resumes at the same time. Which one do you think a school with one vacancy will choose? Good luck with whatever you decide. |
