I just don't get it!
Maybe it's because I'm Australian?
Internet job ads seeking native speakers of English, which provide a link to the school's / company's Chinese-language-only web page.
A recent example is EF Xiamen's ad on Dave's China Board.
I mean, what is the &#@%ing point?
Is there something I'm missing? |

Assuming that they have an English language website or at least an English page on their website then I can think of at least one legitimate reason to link to the Chinese version.
Often the pages of a website get changed and sometimes the web page address gets changed in the course of doing this. This may result in broken links if people such as the FAO are not made aware of these changes, or if the website work is contracted to an outside firm.
By linking to the homepage even if it is in Chinese they are ensuring that you can at least get to the website.
For this to be effective they of course need to have a tab or text link to their English version.
The thing that I dont get are the Chinese websites that have a text link to the English version bu the text word for English is written in Chinese! |
