Hi everyone:

Since I am thinking of just going to Mexico and looking for a job when I arrive, can anyone tell me what I have to do before I get there. I am planning on driving to Mexico from Canada.

Thanks

Is this a question about your car entering Mexico? If so, I would be happy to provide you with some info on what to take care of before entering Mexico. Just want to make sure that's what you are asking. Or are you referring to what you need to do with your credentials before setting out from Canada? Question

Hi Samatha:

Actually my question is both, what credentials I need and what I need to bring my car.

Thanks

You will need all of your documents (i.e. BA, TESL certificate) legalized. Check out: http://www.embamexcan.com/CONSULAR/LegalizationDoctos.shtml#legalization it has good information.

As for the car, you can get the most up to date information here:

Good Luck...

Has anyone tried to drive into Mexico with a financed car, and having a letter from the lender?

It's not a matter of trying. You must follow the procedure laid out by Mexican Aduana, just as you would if the car was paid for. It involves more paper is all. Not all lenders will give you permission to take the unpaid vehicle into Mexico. First step is to call your lending institution.

I have a financed car... but can get authorization by the lender. The question whether having the authorization will minimize the hassle and headaches I might have at the border... I wouldn't want to get it to the border, and then be refused

I think the bigger question should be,

How are you going to make your car payments while working in Mexico?

I don't know if you've left yet or not but I could help as well - hubby and I drove from Vancouver to Monterrey.

I would advise planning for a lot of cash going through the US. We thought we had plenty but by the time we got here we were way over budget and not on gas but other things. We camped the whole way down as well.

Where are you planning to go in Mexico??

If you've made the trip already, I'm curious as to how your trip was.

Just a small point for those driving into Mexico.....remember that unless you get an FM3, after 6 months your car permit is no longer valid and if the Aduana cops happen to check you, the car can be seized for being in Mexico illegally. Before 6 months goes by, you need to leave Mexico, get the window sticker scraped off by Aduana then reenter with a new tourist card, vehicle importation permit and window sticker. In other words, as long as your status in Mexico is legal, the vehicle is considered legal too. Keep copies of the current FM3 in your glove box along with the vehicle importation permit.

Yes and you have to go back to the same border crossing, there is no where else to get this done unfortunately. Luckily we are only a couple hours from the border we came in at. We already had to make one trip back and planning another for Feb...yeesh
