For those who are taking/have taken the QKT in HK:
- Where did you study for the QKT?
- Can you give an overview of the curriculum?
- How much did you pay for it?
Thanks! |

Has ANYONE taken the QKT (Qualified Kindergarten Teacher cert.)???
I found a couple of courses in HK institutes through a web search, but they state that the courses are taught in Chinese.
There must be native speakers here who have taken the QKT in HK, as it is now pretty much a mandatory requirement for anyone teaching in a kindergarten. |

I did it at the hong kong institute of education. however now it is only offered full time or as a post graduate qualification which can be done part time. i know the the institute of vocational education (IVE) offeres the QKT part time - evening classes i think. and these courses are offered in english. but may be not every year. hope this helps. |

Thanks BB for the info.
I just mailed HKIED for info about the QKT, but surprisingly it says that it no longer offers the QKT course. |

The EMB website http://www.emb.gov.hk/index.aspx?langno=1&nodeID=916
says (Section 4):
"At present, four institutions, including The Hong Kong Institute of Education, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee), offer courses for kindergarten teachers." |

Thanks Briandwest for the list.
I can confirm that HKIED is no longer on it, though. |

IVE (institute of vocational education) offered a course that was equal to the QKT last year:
http://www.vtc.edu.hk/ive/lwl/childcare/33901M_e.htm
you could email them to see if they are offereing it again this year.
however by 2010 or something like that you will need to have the CE (certificate in education) so if you already have a bachelors degree it might be better to take a post grad diploma in education.
hope this helps. |

Thanks BB.
It just frustrates me that many of these certificate courses are often not transferable to other countries! I have a pile of certificates for this and that, but each time I move country, they turn out 'not to be quite the right one'!
I'm also not up-to-date on this new certificate requirement that you mentioned. So, is there a plan to make all teachers carry a PGCE for ALL school positions by 2010?
Arrgghhhh! |

not a post grad qualification but a certificate level. (you don't need a bachelors degree to do it) but if you want something that is more recognised the post grad certificate / diploma would be way better. in the eyes of the emb these qualifications will both qualify you to be a kindergarten after 2010 or sometime around then. if you are at a kindergarten in the next school year, your school will get funding for teacher development so they will be able to pay for some of your course fees. |
