Since when is 35+ hours only "part-time"? And how are you supposed to remain in your 1-yr contract without visa sponsorship?

Description:

- The role will be on a part-time
- One year renewable contract basis
- Working-hours will be 7.5 hours a day from 09:30am to 17:30pm (with one hour for lunch) on Monday Friday
- International travel is a possibility
- The salary will be roughly Yen 400,000 per month (before tax and deductions), Yen 2,500 per hour for the first year. The salary will be calculated on an hourly basis, roughly, one month includes 22 working-days so the total salary per month is around Yen 400,000 (before tax)
- As this is a part-time role there are no payments for national holiday days
- There is no housing support ever
- There is no visa support in the first year
- After the first year the contract could be extended for a second year and a pay-rise is possible, also at this time visa support could be possible if required

Job Requirements:

- This position would suit someone living in Kyoto / Osaka / Kobe
- Who ideally has a legal or paralegal background but there is flexibility here for the right person
- All work will be in English; spoken Japanese would be beneficial but is not essential
- You will need a valid visa

this is one of those full-time part-time numbers. All it means is that you'll be paid by the hour, so that if they want to reduce your hours and pay they can. Wheras if it was full-time they would have to keep your full pay even if the hours went down.

They explicitly state that you must have a valid visa. If you have a three year working visa that won't expire for the term of the contract then you won't need to be sponsored.

That position doesn't sound bad. Lots of people are here and already have visas.

Technically, by the number of hours per month, it is a full-time job. Anything over 29.5 hours/month qualifies. I would like to know how they manage to skip past any copayments for health insurance with hours like that. They can gloss over anything else they like. That salary is very rough, by the way.

2500 yen/hour x 7.5 hours/day x 22 days/month = 375,000

When you see words like "ever" in a contract (no housing support ever), you know it was made by an amateur, and probably someone who got badly burned by previous teachers.

What I would like to know is, what is meant by "International travel is a possibility"?

Not sure it's actually a teaching position. But for a paralegal the hours seem a bit low. Then again, for a paralegal with Japanese ability, so does the salary.
