				| This place sounds like the University of Qatar. Anything positive about this place? Are they into unfair appraisals and unprofessional teacher observations? Are they all bullies? Do they hire rejects as management like they do at U of Q? Are teachers allowed to teach because they like teaching or is it just another system of beating teachers down into the ground? | |

				| So is IAT somehow affiliated w/ Griffith University in Qatar? A friend of mine has just applied to Griffith and got the call for an interview with IAT. Also, is there a location in Dubai, as a well as Abu Dhabi? | |

				| I believe that Griffith is merely hired as a recruiter...

				| Yes Griffith has started recruiting for IAT this year and has also done some recruiting for Oman. It had a very recent ad on Dave's job board (Jan 9th) where it actually says that it is recruiting for IAT . Does not have a great reputation - Stoth1972 ask your friend to read the recent thread on IAT posted by a person who actually worked with Griffith in Australia and came to work in IAT.
It seems to have a few different programmes from primary to secondary and although its ad states tertiary too I do not think they offer much in the line of tertiary education unless they are refering to one of their vocational programmes they offer with the military/aviation academy in Al Ain. They are also involeved in the ADEC's bid to put qualified high school teachers into the government high schools to work alongside the local teachers and this programmes extend to positions in Madinat Zayed which is in the western region of Abu Dhabi emirate.

IAT has quite a few places now the first was in Dubai just down the road from Dubai Women's College in Al Qusais.

				| Jane the recent posts on this thread by mikenunez and by Kosh seem to give pretty detailed info on the working conditions at IAT and since both posted in early Jan this year I doubt conditions have changed much since they posted. It would appear that their good advice is to stay away. | |

				| Jane, the stuff on this thread is mostly related to IAT in Abu Dhabi. There is an earlier thread related specifically to Dubai. Try posting on that and you might get more relevant input. | |

What exactly do you mean by "TEFL"? How long was the course? What institution's name appears on your certificate? What's the subject of your BA? Was your volunteering full-time, like VSO or Peace Corps, or just occasional hours in your free time?

				| I have a B.A in Sociology and a Tefl Certification from Georgia State University here in Atlanta Georgia. My volunteer work was just a 8 hours per week with a refugee organization. So what do you think? I wonder how much IAT would pay? | |

				| Skullydude, you seem to be under the impression that you can earn anything in the UAE with just a BA in Sociology and essentially no EFL experience. Go for an MA with a teaching assistantship, then you'll have to do three years in a college in Saudi Arabia before you can even think about one in the UAE. As long as you're not qualified in EFL for anything other than a Korean or Japanese conversation school, you might as well get the MA in TESOL and go for a college job. | |

				| FYI, I (MA, CTEFLA, CELTYL) recently applied for a position with IAT and was offered the following:
 Base Salary : 8955 AED
Housing allowance depends if you located in Abu Dhabi or Dubai will be AED 4800 but if you located for Alain/Ras Al khimah/Fujirah housing allowance will be AED 3200.
Relocation allowance: AED 20,000 plus Ticket/medical plane/end of service.

After reading the posts on this forum, however, I thought this was not the job for me.

				| If you are a NATIVE SPEAKER, stay away from this outfit and if you are a NON-NATIVE SPEAKER, I encourage you to apply!
To the Western standards, this place is a total mess, but for the Arab teachers (the basic salary is: 7,100 AED/a month), it is PARADISE!
