We were sent an info package by this company and it looks VERY nice, perhaps too nice! Paid flight, 10,000 per month for housing plus a very competitive monthly salary.

Is anybody here curently working for them?
If so, can you post up some comments either good or bad based on your experiences with them?

I've tried the 'search' (should be renamed 'waste your time') function but as usual it sucks the big one.

Ha. Very competitive? According to who? Them? For how many hours? Look at earning a minimal 60,000 a month including housing for 100 hours (25ish a week).

I would also add to never ever sign your contract with a recruiter. They are a recruiter no matter what they call themselves to lessen the blow. Sign your contract with the school directly.

All 100% true. However, remember that there are two kinds of recruiters. Ones who make the teacher sign with them and those who don't. As Ki said, avoid the first kind. The 2nd kind simply screen you and put you in contact with schools, which can be a good option. Companies like Dewey and Reach To Teach fall into this category and can be a good option.

Why not go into more detail about the differences SC? I think you've made a valid point here. Explain the R2T process and philosophy as a benchmark by which other "recruiters" can measure up to.

My POV on recruiters is well documented. I stand by my belief that showing up and testing the waters first is the best way to go. That notwithstanding, in both public and private conversations with R2T, I now feel that the industry and those seeking entrance into it benefit greatly from its existence. So I invite Son Chong to paste our PM from some months back where he outlined said differences for me. I think it could benefit this community by putting this age old debate to rest. I know it worked for me.

As for the OP, I think the adage, "If it sounds too good to be true, it is" is most apropos here. I'd be very wary of anyone offering a free flight. This ain't Korea son.

Has anbody looked at their contract?

EMPLOYEE understands that in the case of late arrival, 1-10 minutes, EMPLOYEE will be fined NT$400, if late more than 10 minutes the fine shall be NT$1,000 for the period of the first hour and NT$1,000 more for each hour following up to a maximum late fine of NT$3,000. If EMPLOYEE is late more than 10 minutes for three instances or more in a month the fine shall be another NT$2,000. If EMPLOYEE is on time everyday a bonus of NT$2,000 shall be given to EMPLOYEE.

But here's what they'll pay you if you're working hard for them:
Any classroom teaching hours exceeding 25 per week including special events or activities will be pay at the rate of NT$550 per hour.

And while they generously offer to pay the "Entire" costs of health care, they expect full time employees to pay an 8,000 NT processing fee in the first month. Plus any associated costs with complications for the ARC.

It's not a contract I would sign.

Is that straight from English Sky's contract? That is a bit harsh. It's not uncommon for schools to penalize teachers for being late. It's a fair thing to do if teachers are consistently late, in my opinion. The above is on the extreme side though.

Yup, it's straight from their 'standard' contract they have posted on-line.
There's even more fine fun if you read the whole thing through.

10,000 NT cancellation penalty if you leave early WITH a month's notice and they retain the ability to fire you anytime for any reason.

I've seen more of the same with other bad contracts in Taiwan. The contracts always seem to be designed to protect the employer and not help the employee in any way. It's a generalization, but most of the contracts I have laid eyes on felt one-sided.
