1. Welcome back to the fold, Malsol.
2. Re Baggins, you might get a little wry amusement if you Google the phrase "feelings of entitlement."
Stay warm. |

My apologies, Malsol. I didn't realize that there were limits on how your gift was to be used.
I returned to the US a few days ago with 100 rmb (later exchanged for $22.59) in my pocket. The rest of what we had, including your money, which was held in reserve, I left with my wife. She has needed to use that and since then has been depending on her mother until I am able to send her money, which I hope will be soon.
We held your money in reserve because our hope was to not need it, and therefore to be able to pass it on to others in greater need, in accordance with what you said to me.
Since you now want it back, asap, I will do so. As soon as possible. Just not sure when that will be.
Let me know how to get the money to you. |

Looking back over my notes to you back in December, I realize that I never actually used the words, "Thank you". I had thought that what I did write expressed my appreciation and gratitude, but since it didn't, I apologize.
I didn't pm you because you wrote, "YOU GAVE ME YOUR REAL NAME AND EMAIL. I have deleted it as I have no need of it. Our business is finished. You keep asking for my real name and email. I don't trust you with it." I was under the impression that you didn't want any further contact at that point, and I thought that you would get the message from this thread. Again, I apologize for any misapprehension.

The 1,000 rmb was to take care of your immediate emergemcy, NOT to support your family after your school matter was resolved.
Please return the money asap since you did not need it for the intended purpose. |
Masol is back! Now I can stop worrying!!!!! Where have you been????? |

If you are in the USA you can send him money via WAl-MART for a low fee. You will have to get some personal information from him to put on the form and then tell him what banks he can claim it at.
Not a big deal.
or just send it to me and I will take my kids to HOOTERS and thank MASOL for the meal when I see him next... |

What I don't understand is how you ever let yourself get in such a dire financial situation, particularly as you have dependents.
ALWAYS have a credit card for emergencies. You SHOULD NEVER allow yourself to get in the situation where you can't afford to go home. NEVER rely on organisations and schools in China to help you out when the going gets tough. YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN BOSS in China at all times.
I am afraid that, for a man of your age with family responsibilities, you have rather embarassed yourself. |

What I don't understand is if he has a family here, why would he desert them rather than stick around and get another job here and take care of his family.
My bet is that the mrs is begining to regret her choice. |

| YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN BOSS |
A great thought - but often kind of difficult to achieve (in a practical sense) when you're actually working in China.
You know after your recruiter talked this FT job up into being such a great way to spend some time living abroad - but when you get out here you find out that their are very few resources to rely on for help if things go wrong (schools that turn sour, recruiters that suddenly go quiet, local authorities that are disinterested, and embassies that only give a hoot if you are imprisoned or dead) - and indeed the only thing that can give you that feeling of having some control of a situation is having the money to get you out of the mess when there is no way back.
Naw for most FT's - you will be very much under the control of the boss, after all that is the nature of China - which if you're lucky can be bearable (having enough time/energy and money to explore this country is the thing that makes the job worthwhile for most FT's - certainly not their employers) - but if you're not well just read these forums and this thread to see what can be the consequenses. Newbies beware |
