Later I did notice that Costco had 400 thread count sheet, but often you can't count on Costco having the same thing twice. |
We always tell our new teachers, if you have space in your luggage, bring a set of sheets and a good towel. You can find good sheets but they are WAY expensive, the reasonably priced ones are as Jill described. A lot of towels here must be made of polyester or something, they just kind of move the water around instead of soaking it up. Again, there are places that sell really nice ones but the prices are "really nice" too. I used to durel over those sheets in Costco in Morelia, but they were to expensive for me. When my mother-in-law came to visit us there, she fell in love with the pillows they had a Costco, so we bought her a set as a special present.
Part of me hates to admit it, but I do miss Costco!!! |

If you plan for it, you can visit one of them here in DF when you come up. I feel the same about sheets and towels...so I buy them there almost exclusively. |

Well, my dear husband is still living 5 minutes from the Morelia Costco, at least for the next month he is. So I can still put in orders. I mostly just miss looking at things, he's only just starting to understand how I can go to Costco for one thing, like sun dried tomatoes!!!!, spend 2 hours in the store and come out with only the sun dried tomatoes. I just love looking at things, I love that you can walk around and not have clerks pestering you. I like my towns small shops, but I enjoy self service shopping. I want to look at things I have no intention of buying at this moment, I want to be able to take things off the shelf and read the box at my whim and not have to ask a clerk to show me each thing.
So where is/are the Costco(s) in DF and how far off the metro lines are they?
But what was this thread about???
Oh yeah, I answered that already. |

Hmm...not sure about this one. I am in small town Mexico, so I can't speak about what DF has to offer in this way. Guy lives in DF, but I am pretty sure that he is not well versed in femine hygiene products. (RIGHT GUY!??!!! RIGHT!!??!!!)
As for the sheets, one mistake I made was bringing queen size sheets along. The problem lies in the fact that we could buy a queen size mattress, but they do not sell queen size bedframes. (at least in my neck of the woods) Do yourself a favour and bring double or king. We still use the queen size sheets on the double bed, but they don't stay on very well and I am not prepared to trade in my 400 thread count sheets for the expensive scratchy ones here. |

Definitely bring contact lens solution. I wear hard contacts and can't use any of the solution here. When my luggage was lost by my airline, during the time when no liquids at all were allowed, I lucked out and found an optician who had a sample bottle of solution that he gave me so I could take my contact out after 40 hours of travel. I'm not supposed to wear it for more than 12 hours, so what a relief! Anyway, bring a good supply with you. |

Tampons? What the hell is that? You girls are just makin' stuff up...
There are two (maybe more) Costcos I know of in DF. One is in Villa Coapa in the south. I don't think it's near a metro stop. The other that I use is in Polanco...closest metro being metro Polanco, but you'd still need to grab a bus or taxi for a short ride. If you want company, my wife and I could probably arrange a co-shopping excursion. She seems to love the place. I like the large wine selection. |

The only thing I can't find is Kraft Miracle Whip. I guess I'm lucky that even in Southern Mexico we have C&A, Liverpool, Applebees, Walmart, Sam's Club, Office Depot, KFC, McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Benneton, Home Depot, Dominos, and Pizza Hut. Cinemas are similar in design and comfort to those in Canada, UK and the US. On the rare occasion I get homesick, I just go to one of these places. I actually like Mexican hamburgers better now with bacon, ham, pinapple and chiles. ?como se dice las papas para desayuno in espanol? hash browns |

'Papas hash' they say at VIPS in DF, the only place I've seen them here. |

Being out in "the sticks" I have virtually no access to any of those little luxuries. A couple of things I really miss (and that I load up on back 'home') are Earl Grey tea and decent-quality peanut butter. |

I live in Coyoacan and there is a Costco 'near' me...it's the one I use when I finally run out of my few bulk things (which means I have only gone twice since moving here!) It's in Xochimilco right near the Tec de Mty.
I agree 100% with MamaOaxaca....I LOVE going to Costco just to look! THe one thing I was addicted to back home was the books, as they were so much cheaper! THankfully, the English selection here isn't that large...otherwise I"d be spending more money than a sane person should!
As for feminine products..I"ve never had a problem finding them....even when I lived in tiny mountain town La Esperanza, Honduras.
I have to admit...that DF is quite well stocked as things that I was never able to find before are here....including veggie products! I can get veggie burgers, ground meat and sausage at my local Wal-mart. As well...I can now get PICKLES!! And that my friends is a big deal!!! Just before Christmas they also got chocolate chips in...something that I have also never been able to find. Unfortunately...my mom all ready had a massive bag packed to bring me but...at least I know for when I run out (which will likely be sometime in the year 2020...hehehe!)

Ah pickles.......oh yummy - that is a big deal but what kind of pickles. We have pickles here but I love the Vlasic Kosher dills and can't find anything close to that. We found some but they were very vinegary and not enough garlic. Bring pickles. |
