Why is China's #1 agriculture university recruiting for March, the middle of the academic year? |
That's probably because Spring Festival doesn't start until February 18 this year and since traditionally Spring Festivals go for two weeks, universities and colleges will not have their Spring term starting until March.
My school's new term starts on March 5. |

Malsol, having first hand knowledge of ICB (the business school at CAU) and in contact with teachers who are still there i can tell you there are some definate pluses and even more definate minuses to working there.
plus
pay is good if you are teaching business core subjects,
location is good (wudaoko)
benifits can be good (bonus, airfare etc)
students can be friendly
many of the teachers are excellent to work with and helpful
minuses,
students are the truly spoiled type,
very difficult to teach (they dont really want to learn)
accomodation is guesthouse style (small room with a door nazi making sure you have no guests)
administration can be lacking - not very supportive
high staff turnover - most teachers do not re-sign and they have a very some very strange teachers (crazies working there)
cheating is rampant,
marks are often highly inflated by administration - so when the students go to the UK, they tend to run into problems with the studies (they fail) |
Adamsmith your response should be a model here at Dave's. Thank you brother.
Well...yes...except for the spelling. "benifit", "definate", "accomodation" - Why is it so many posters here can't spell properly in the language they are supposed to be teaching?
That quibble aside, yes, it's a model answer. The negatives noted could apply to just about any university in China. The only difference is one of degree to which the truths apply. That's the reality and folks considering teaching at a Chinese university should be aware of it. |

Duhhh, homer, I dont teach english.
I post in a hurry as I am busy and do not always proofread my writing. I am more interested in informing versus making the spelling and grammar police happy. |

TW I think you missed the point.
Here is China's #1 agriculture uni, located in the desireable Beijing, they pay 10,000 to 15,000 rmb per month.
What is wrong that they are recruiting in the middle of the academic calendar? |
How is March the middle of the academic year? |

Bayden, The academic year begins in September in many countries - China being one of them. Therefore the spring semester begining in March this year is the middle of the academic year. |

They hire in "the middle of the academic year" simply because you can break an academic year into two semester, which is common in Chinese universities; the second semester (actually a misnomer as it literally means "six months") begins in March and ends before the July summer holiday. |

I had experiences with this school and would not recommend relying on their admin sections...for timely paperwork submits.... |
