Hi all,

Help!! I've been offered various positions in China and have managed to narrow it down to two. The offers are roughly the same and I have been equally impressed with bith organisations. One is in Jiaozou, Henan the other is in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. There seems to be a distinct lack of info on Jiaozou on the net. Does anyone know anything about these two cities??? Your views would be appreciated. Ta

If it is the Shaoxing with Mary Feng? I think she is pretty reliable. I know someone working there. I also know someone working in Jiaozou, maybe at the same college, I think there are only a couple. Honestly, Zhejiang may be a scant prettier. If you want, PM me with your e-mail, and I will send your e-mail to the two people I mentioned

Zhejiang would definately be nicer. Henan is ugly and overpopulated. Henan is about the size of Switzerland but has nearly 100 million people! I live in the 2nd largest city in Henan and it's tough living here, I can't imagine living in a smaller city, and I've never even heard of Jiaozuo. Zhejiang weather would be nicer, as well.

Let's be nice, Zhejiang is a scant prettier. Uphold my illusions. I already feel like a traitor saying that much
The larger cities in henan, though, are behind, i would say, some of the eastern cities in cleaning up the pollution. Zhengzhou is much cleaner, 90% of it, and the people are friendly. I guess I like the smaller cities/towns in Henan better, though like much of China, the midsize "small cities can be the dirtiest, unlike America.
At least Luoyang has go-cart racing. Go an hour west of Luoyang, to Jiyuan, very clean. Very clean. I might take a job at the #1 middle school their next year. they are building a new one.

I wasn't aware of the go-carts in Luoyang, but we did just get a new roller coaster that even does a few loops. However, the seatbelt buckles don't work and you have to tie them across your waist!
Luoyang must be exceptionally dirty, then, especially now with the rain. Many side streets are unpaved and turn into mud. Everywhere is mud and green puddles, which is from antifreeze I guess. The only city I've seen that's dirtier than Luoyang is Xi'an. I've been through Zhengzhou once and it did seem a lot cleaner than Luoyang. Luoyang is just a strange town, I haven't figured it out yet. It may have something to do with the state owned factories closing down, leaving the city in a general state of disrepair.
Next month is Peony festival, one of the bigger attractions for Luoyang. If anyone wants to come by I can set you up and we can eat some pao mo or shui xi!

Places that are accessible : -

Shandong Province.
Hangzhou.
Suzhou
Hong Kong can be reached by plane for about 800.
Jinzhou and Huludao have a lot of parks but be prepared to fork out at least 25 RMB to go inside the hothouse (orchids, sunflowers, cacti)
