|
|
I teach in Indonesia and want to make my permanent home in SE Asia...but: I am feeling a bit guilty about living so far away while my elderly mother in the UK is becoming increasingly frail. I am toying with the idea of relocating somewhere closer for possibly a couple of years.
I can't bear the thought of dark winter days - I can stand the cold, it's the lack of light that kills me - in northerly lattitudes but I'd like to be within a few hours' flying time of London. Hence my interest in Turkey.
Has anyone there made the transition from SE Asia to Turkey? What are the plusses and minuses? I don't have any debts or expensive habits, but I have got quite used to things like eating out all the time and having a maid to do my housework since I've been in Indo. I currently work in a private senior high school and prefer teaching that kind of age group.
Any advice and/or warnings gratefully received. |

It's freezing outside today - and dark already at 5.30. |

But you can eat out as often as you want and get a cleaner relatively cheaply. Turkey is a good place for bachelor slobs. |

5.30 I can handle. 3.45 in the afternoon I can't.
Yes, I guess I am deliberately looking for somewhere I can get away with being a bachelor slob without it being too obvious! I never used to be like that, but having spent a couple of years having shirts magically clean and iron themselves while I am out at work I am fairly determined to keep hold of that feeling. |

It's good for lazy pregnant slobs too! At the moment our new cleaner is polishing every nook and cranny-- today she even vacuumed behind the bed! What a champ! |
