Hi everyone!!!
I am a U.S. citizen and I am now starting to do research on teaching in a foreign country. I read some of the posts and found them interesting and informative. I am not sure if I would like to teach english or something else like history or geography like I teach here.
I basically wanted to know if anyone had every taught in Luxembourg or knew of anyone that had taught there. I wanted teach in a country where I could learn a new language. I already speak Spanish fluently so I do not want to go to Central or South America or Spain.
Any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks

I taught in Luxembourg in 2000. At that time, there were only two language schools, but lots of work teaching business/financial English skills. Some business/professional background is desirable there.
Further, at that time, it was still possible for North Americans to work legally. You should check the Luxembourg Embassy website for current regulations. I wouldn't try to teach in Lux illegally - it's a small place and the chances of being caught would be very high. |

Thank you for the advice. Yes I have a J.D. so I know I can probably teach Buisness English. I agree, I would never work illegally anywhere especially somewhere so small. Did you like your time in Luxembourg???
Thanks for the advice.

It rains a lot, but otherwise it's a little paradise in my book. Good location, good food, lots of opps to travel and interesting people. The language is an unfortunate mixture of French and German and requires significant spit to pronounce properly. However, French is the language of daily business. If you're not proficient, you should study - you'll need it. English is the third/fourth/fifth language in Lux and you will really need French to get around. |
