Hi everyone,

I'm sure every experienced teacher here knows about the Callan method. I also know that the majority hate teaching the method etc and there is more negatives than postives. But i am thinking of maybe starting teaching with the Callan method opposed to the traditional way just to get experience being in front of a class and building up my conifidence in the process. The following year after i will probably do the Celta.

Is this an ok way to start??
Will it pose a problem??

About me, i have a BA in Arts, volunteering experience in tutoring for 1 year, mid thirties and soon a EU Passport which i will need to work in my preferred country Poland.

Thanks for reading and hopefully i will get some positive feedback and some negative as well, all advice needed, Regards Vic

I think Kent K here has some knowledge of Callen Method. As an experienced TEFL teacher-trainer - my best advice would be to NOT get method-bound. Study and learn about as many different methods as you can - and apply them as they best meet the needs of your students. Every method has something to contribute - and ways to constrict and limit.

Thanks to Ted and Kent for advice and input, most appreciated Very Happy

I have pretty much made up my mind regarding the method and i will probably teach it for a year and see if i like it and then take it from there.

I aim only to gain experience and confidence in the first year even if it is with the Callan Method. I am reading "Learning Teaching" by Jim Scrivener which i think is a great book to learn from and i hear its the book they use for the Celta course? The Celta course i will do the following year.
Thanks again Ted and Kent, regards, Vic
