| We had a newstory in the Diario de Yucatan, the local newspaper here in Merida Yucatan as to what precipitated the steep rise in tortilla prices. Apparently, Fox, just before he left office sold 125,000 tons of maize to the USA, shorting the foodstuff supply and provoking the rise in prices. I am surprised that you there in DF, considering its PRD slant, are not aware of this happening. |

Good point, LS. I didn't know the president's office sold corn....could be why there are so many tortilla vendors behind the palacio nacional.
PRD 'slant' is more of a road or Metrobus construction method round here, or how campaign contributions are solicited for Las Vegas trips. |

| There is a huge protest going on in the Zocalo, about 5 blocks away from me as I write this. Looks like it's time for the weekly protests to start again. The article that I read about this said that it was supposed to be non-political, but I've seen a lot of PRD yellow and pictures of AMLO in the crowd. Have there been any other protests in other parts of the republic? |

Why are farmers and trade unions protesting? They are benefited by higher prices, are they not? Or are they protesting because they aren't getting their share of the increase? |
