You don't have to buy a new one!
I bought a used one a year ago from some small company. I got it in conjunction with my Yahoo BB.
It cost about 27,000 yen.
A considerable saving considering a new NTT line costs about 70,000.
I found the add in an employment magazine, "Hot Pepper" I think it was called but I imagine it's not too hard to find a like company. |

Or, even cheaper, you can simply rent a line from NTT.
Why is it cheaper? Because you only pay ~400 yen a month more over the line access charge you'll be paying anyway than you do if you own your line (regardless of who you bought it off).
If you're here less than ~4 years then it's cheaper to simply rent outright rather than buy. If you buy new then it's somrthing like 9 years before you see the benefit.
NTT have all the info up, in English, on their website. NTT West is Osaka, yes? |

can I rent a line form anyone else besides NTT? heh, the main reason being is that I went on a tour around Japan for a few months, and kept my apato (good place, cheap etc) and came back, I already had an NTT line, but I forgot all about it, and didnt pay for more then 3 months, had it cut...
so now Im in their bad books, and I guess I cant redeem myself... |
