This has been a really funny read. Mostly because I'm sitting here imagining how moonraven would have responded.

Miracle Whip is one of the reasons I left the US.

I'm very proud to not have eaten at McDonald's in a decade.

I learned to make salad dressings from on-line recipes because 9 years ago you couldn't buy them in the town I'm living in. And guess what, the ones I make taste better than the store bought kind. |

mmm salad dressings for me consist of olive oil and vinegar - salt and pepper to taste but that's all I need. So provided I can get those I'm ok.

I love Miracle Whip and McDonalds but avoid Mickey D's because it's the same price as in Canada which means it's expensive of course. I admit when we went back to Vancouver we had to give in to the craving but it was cheap for our friends to buy dinner... |

Wow! Scott, thanks for the information that contact solution is behing the pharmacy counter. No wonder it is so hard to find!!

Just to clear things up for you, these days the terms hard lense and gas-permeable lense refer to the same thing and are used interchangeably. In the old days (I started wearing contacts in 1972 when I was nine), hard lenses and gas-permeable lenses were made out of two different materials and the terms were not interchangeable. Gas-permeable lenses were like the second generation of hard lenses. Eventually the original lenses were phased out and now all "hard lenses" are made of a gas-permeable material. |

H, there's a website called glassesdirect.co.uk (or something similar) that might be able to help you. They're based in the UK, and you can mail order your specs and contacts through them. I don't know if they do tricky prescriptions, but they're cheap, and might be able to help you.

Good luck,

Lozwich. |

Thanks Lozwich- I'll keep that in mind. So far I've been ok because I can get what I need through family, or when I go home for a visit. There's only one place in western Canada that can make my contacts, because they're an unusual shape as well as prescription, so I'll stick with them as long as I can. |

In DF there are a bunch of places for glasses andcontacts near the Zocalo - but you need to know where to look as they are all up zillion flights of stairs and hidden. Prices are amazing compared to the US. But I always bring many huge bottles of contact solution and drops - it's very expensive in DF. I also bring my own peanut butter, tuna fish (can't stand the amarillo) and degree deodorant . . . silly things but at least they don't take up a lot of space.

Now, where can I find a decent bagel in DF? And I'm not talking about what they pass off as a bagel at Starbucks. Guy, any ideas? In GDL I used to find them in Walmart, frozen, but no such luck in Iztacalco. |

				| I've only ever seen frozen bagels at Walmart and Costco. There must be a place in Polanco somehere for a fresh one. Maybe on Ejercito Nacional. |

As I vegetate at home with the most miserable cold, I'm so happy that my parents brought me a new supply of Neo Citran in December. It's like Theraflu + Tequila, but better |

What about Condoms? I can't buy them in Hong Kong as they are a bit on the small size. |

We all have that same problem here in Mexico. However, we've found extra-strength, heavy-duty garbage bags to be a reasonable substitute. They provide a snug fit without being too small for us. I personally recommend Hefty brand, although there are other popular brands that I'm sure work just as well. I would suggest avoiding the generic brands, however, as I've found that they can sometimes stretch out of shape after about 6 to 8 hours of continual intercourse.

Now I am on my way to Spain but considering getting a CELTA/DELTA to assist in the job search.

I plan to teach in Andalucia where it is more competitive. |

If you're considering getting a TEFL cert in Spain and then plan to teach in Andalucia, why would you be concerned about the size of condoms in Mexico? |

A bit late replying to the original post, but...

I have Marmite in my cupboard as I've had 2 students who have traveled to England, but here in DF, can't find it.

As a lover of strong tastes, Colman's Mustard is in Liverpool (but expensive), as the brands in the supermarket are very insipid. I would like to know if anyone has found Vindaloo in powder, as, strangely for the chile-eating Mexicans, they don't seem to know what a hot curry is. |
