Hi Guys, Does anyone have any recommendations for a good private health insurance policy for my ni~no? I am covered by my school, but he is not. I figure it is probably easier to have a policy based in Peru rather than Australia. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Is it just me or does that seem like a lot?

I have no idea what they're like, but http://www.worldnomads.com/ is an Australian travel insurance company that covers you for 6 months for $300AUD or 12 months for around $500AUD vs ~$850AUD a year for the one naturegirl mentioned.

I'll probably go with World Nomads simply because I'm not committed to staying in Peru and might end up anywhere. If I knew I was staying in Peru I might get something local.

The cost of health insurance comes as a real shock to us residents of 'socialist' countries Sad

I was pretty happy with World Nomads. I had to make three claims on my last bout of travelling and I had no trouble with any of them. As with any insurance company, be sure to keep your receipts for your items as it makes the process a lot easier. They're based in Australia, but will let you scan any documents such as medical bills, receipts etc and send them via email - very handy. They were quite particular about my medical claim (it was only $100 of pills), but luckily I had asked for full receipts from the doctor and had no worries with recouping the cash.

Even though I have found cheaper policies (my last policy with them was close to 300 for a year, whereas I have seen other companies for ~230) I think I will stick with them again when I head to Korea to teach in the summer. According to the Lonely Planet forum there is a promotional code which is meant to give you 5% off your policy cost: STPJMS

hope it still works in July Shocked
