o.k., we've all eaten disgusting food in different places....but just to throw a little humour into the mix, i'm wondering, has anyone ever eaten anything totally disgusting in Mexico. By that, I mean, something you've come across that you cannot aptly describe with reference to your previously known palate (sp)?. For me, it was at a birthday party of a sister's friend from a small town, and the "snack" was some kind of pork dish that tasted like poo and had the texture of mucous, but i was hungry doused it with salsa and ate a few in order to not offend the hostess who obviously went to pains to put the party together. Any other grisly experiences. Again, not an attempt to diss mexico, a country I love, just an attempt to inject some levity into the cultural integration experience. I'm not a culinary sissy by any means but really, that experience was memorable, especially before the tequila materialised.  |

Pancita...pig stomach. Worse, it was served to me by my future mother-in-law, the very first time I'd met her and my future father-in-law. Even worse yet, I couldn't get the first bite down, and had to excuse myself to the washroom to expel it.

| Sangre...went to a cantina with a couple of friends and it was the dish of the day. I'm veggie but still willing to taste a bit to check new things out. It tasted like meat.....beef I guess....but not great beef! And really..it was more the thought of eating blood then the overall taste! |

Chicharron - deep-fried pork rind. How can anyone eat that stuff? This site needs a 'vomit' emoticon.
A really greasy 'tlayuda' (in name only) fried in a pan with a lot of grease. Horrible. Two bites and I threw it away. |

| Chicharron...served mucous wet (as what I think Chola may have eaten) or the crispy type? I must admit having grown fond of the crispy version, after initially being grossed out by it. |

Not the puffy, crispy kind - that's okay if you don't think about what you're actually eating.
No, the school cafeteria serves the soggy, boiled in oil version, which I made the mistake of buying - once. |
