They ask me to come in with a PHOTO (from a magazine, etc.) showing the cut I want. |
I always do that anyway. I did it once because I wanted to have a haircut like Kawaguchi, now I always bring one just so they know the general idea of what I want.
Still...they have never been able to give me a haircut like Takuya Kimura. |

Try bringing in a picture of Kim Jung Il and see their reaction. Now that is a Do!

Kinshachi, in Central Nagoya look for places called "RCut".
(I cant' say whether the R stands for Rapid, Right, Racist, or Reasonable. You decide.) The shops have a red formica theme in their decorations, so they're easy to spot.
They operate on exactly the same principle as the QB barbershops. There's one next to the Ueda bus station / subway entrance, for example.
The staff there are grumpy, and seem a tad unwilling to deal with foreigners, but they have a way around it. They ask me to come in with a PHOTO (from a magazine, etc.) showing the cut I want.
That sounds like a real time-saver.
I've also seen a 1000-yen place in more-central-Nagoya, actually WITHIN the subway station, but can't for the life of me recall what it's called nor which station I saw it in. |
Thanks Sethness! I too remember seeing a place in a subway station sometime last year, but I still haven't been able to find it again. I also still haven't seen "RCut", but Ueda is a bit out of the way for me. Luckily, though, I found a QB House in the Chikusa AEON shopping centre. They were pretty good - no hassles with my limited Japanese, but next time I'll have to remember "kami o herasanaide kudasai" (thanks for that phrase, Canuck)! |

For people with blond hair, if you want to colour it yourself, don't expect to find much selection in hair colour here. Most of the shades are brown or red, or plain bleach with no toner. Probably they might be able to do something in hair salons, especially in bigger cities, but the Japanese hair colour is much stronger, and therefore harder on your hair, than that from North America. I usually get mine sent from home.
I think FBC has some shades. |
