My school are now having to get applicants to send a medical report before the local authorities (in Tianjin) will issue the invitation. Is this the case in other places? Before, we just got the medical here after arrival. |

It makes sense if they have had people come over to Tianjin AND THEN fail the medical test. It probably saves them some money.
On the other hand, if the time since your last exam is short enough I would try to argue from that.
If all else fails, then find out exactly how much US dollars the exam will take and then ask them to reimburse you for the FULL AMOUNT.
It sounds fair to me. |

It's not for me, actually, as I'm here already.
The problem is, this is expensive, delays the application process, and the candidate has to take the medical again here anyway, because the Chinese doctors will not endorse the foreign report (because it may be fake). Just wondered what happens in other places.

I know several people who were required to do this last year. But they were still required to have a local medical exam after arrival. |

I think you ought to clarify that such reports must in principle be legalised/authenticated (involving the Chinese consular service). |

I had to do that before the authorities in Inner Mongolia would issue the documents for me to get my Z visa, and I think my recently-departed colleagues from Texas had to get a medical done in the USA as well. |

word through the grapewine is that they're getting ready to enforce that as the new SOP.
Problem with that those test are fairly extensive and it might be worth it to come over and get it done here then just step across to HK with your invitation letter and finish the process. That's the conclusion a friend of mine came to after wasting 1500$ to get the medical in the US just to have it done here again.
The medical here is 300RMB + 800$ round trip ticket (that you will need anyways) and 2500RMB round trip to HK.
much better option if you ask me |

That seems to be the way things are going. I can't see many people being willing to pay for chest x-rays, ECGs and blood tests upon the request of some distant, unknown potential employer.
Actually, I don't think the Chinese embassies ask to see the original when processing the Z visa application, meaning schools could submit forgeries to the local authorities. That's probably what many are doing. |

I had mine done in the states and then was issued a z before coming over..
it did like Steppe sez involve a process of authenticating ..a long one involving a notary and then the State of Washington and the Chinese consulate..
the med didn't cost a thing as I went to the state clinic who were more than happy to oblige..
the company rendered my visa cost..which was 90 dollars..
The Chinese travelers hops..which did the test...excepted the med..but I did have to pay 2 RMB for one of their forms to be attached.. |

This is interesting. In '04, I had the physical done stateside and then have it authenticated by both the U.S. State Department and the Chinese consulate.
When I returned in '06, I was required to submit a physical WITHOUT U.S. State Department or Chinese consular authentication. When I arrived in China, I had to go through the physical all over again.
It'll be interesting to see what becomes SOP. |
