I'm currently teaching English in northern China but considering moving to Shenzhen. Can anyone tell me about the costs of living in Shenzhen, compared to northern China (Shandong province) and about what is considered a good salary/wage in Shenzhen?
I have about four years of teaching experience and a TEFL certificate.
Also, because Shenzhen has much more industry, I'm considering eventually working my way back into my previous career of technical writing there. I have about twice as much experience as a technical writer than as a teacher. Does anyone have perspective on the differences in salaries/wages between those two occupations, teaching English and technical writing? |

How's your Chinese? I don't imagine there would be too many vacancies for technical writers unless you were proficient in written Chinese.
But then you never know. |

Recently - it is more expensive - but not hugely so - taxi flagfall is 12.5 as opposed to 11 in Shanghai and 5 out in the smaller cities - but Food seems about the same - i ate well in a good indian resturant - and though i cant remember the price it did not seem high - Home inn hotel was 168 which is ok - McD's same i think. Housing seems very expensive but as a FT should not be a problem. The have an 'Electronics' street where everything is realllllllly cheap if you bargain - I got my Christmas pressie to myself - Motorola RazrK fone for 1500, 2700 in high street shops, and my pals 2300 fone was available for 1300 after bargaining - i imagie drinking in bars is expensive but i didnt bother |
