|
hi there,
I'm a newbie teacher heading off for Taiwan in march, I would like to be prepared as much as possible! I'll probabaly be teaching between the ages of 4-12 yrs.
are there some essential esl books i can buy before i come over?
- A good, not over complicated grammar book ?
Should I rather buy other teaching material when I get there, ppl have mentioned 'caves bookstore'?? or should I get some back here?
Do most taiwanese schools follow a similar curriculum? If yes, whats it called?
Or maybe I'm over stressing ?
Sorry for all the quaestions! All your suggestions will be highly appreciated
Thank you |

No grammar books are needed, unless for yourself. Grammar should never really ever come up with that age group. They do not learn like us bigguns
Are you teaching at a public school or a private buxiban? I am guessing private (I could be wrong), so there is no set curriculum.
Bring pictures of your home town, your family, anything to do with you and your country. Try to bring some stuff from there too (maybe a complete set of coins, they don't have to be new). That kind of stuff would probably be more useful than a grammar book for 4 year olds. I don't really have any recommendations for books though, sorry. |

I'm not sure what private bushibans you've worked at...but mine certainly has a set curriculum. Full of grammar books, reading books, spelling books, etc, etc.
As for the OP, dont stress, dont bother buys books and carrying them over here, as one teacher said to me, "on an airplane books are nothing but dead weight, pack some extra socks or deoderant instead". I'm not saying that you're smelly, but I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying. Relax, and have a good trip.
