"Mariscal guys"
In Cuenca we called them Gringa dogs. In Oaxaca they are called Zocaleros. Because they normally first meet their prey in the Zocalo Mexico's name for the Plaza Princepal. |

And if it was one of the "Mariscal guys" you hooked up with, well, sadly there are a lot of guys around there who experience has taught that meeting "rich" foreigners, and taking what they can get from their generosity is better than the work options available to them. |
We've got a similar type here in the beach towns of Costa Rica. They've got girlfriends all over the world!
One female teacher in Costa Rica that I knew innocently fell in love with one of these guapos, only to find out that he was still sending love letters to girls that he had met from four other countries. With each one, he was trying to convince them to marry him so that he could emigrate to their country! |

Do those of you who married your "Latin Pareja" think you'll be living where he/she is from for quite some time? Or do you share that wanderlust and plan to travel together? I've seen that Naturegirl has had some trouble getting hubby into the states or to Asia to teach... Guy? Melee(mamaoaxaca)? |
I can see myself living here for some time, but we both still have the wanderlust. Since we don't have kids, we take advantage and travel as much as we can...took three nice trips last year. We've toyed with the idea of working in Asia...and I'd like to retire in Canada, but maintain ties to Mexico and Mexico City. It seems more that geography doesn't really matter anyway, though my wife is probably more emotionally rooted than I consider myself to be. |

In response to the questions, how did you meet, etc....
Actually we met through a friend of mine who has residency in Ecuador and her lawyer. Incidentally he is a lawyer as well. He is definely not a "Mariscal man" and we have never been to a nightclub. That is why I was a little disappointed in him because it wasn't just another foreigner hookup. We dated for quite a while before we had a physical relationship. We dated for about 4 months before I had to return to Canada because of a family emergency. Also I was teaching private English lessons at the time and even though he wanted me to teach him I refused to teach without getting paid so that never happened. Maybe it was the thought of free English lessons that tempted ? I think you are probably right in that it is easier to hook up with "rich" foreigners and take what you can get. Thanks for the insight.. |

So, if I'm reading correctly, the whole relationship was about 4 months long? Wow, don't take this badly, but your idea of quite a while and mine must be different. |

Well, good luck with it to all!
A few thoughts:

tied to my wife (and it's wonderful, Justin!) |
Sounds great! I've never been into marriage, but bondage is a different matter. By the way, though I'm opposed to the institution of marriage, relationships are fine with me- Mine has been going on for several years...

It all makes sense, now. Were you expecting honesty? (I'm very sorry, but absolutely couldn't resist. Best of luck with it.)

Your wife is latina. Goes with the territory.
And happy weekend, and happy carnaval to all.
