Why the reluctance to address directly the UOH situation?
Getting bogged down in minutae such as what is a real university/teacher does not address the critical issue at hand.
Given the information, do you want to spend a year at UOH?
The prepschool is the location where most teachers are being recruited. Both Math and ELC are very short handed due to their poor handling of the professional faculty.
If you are a young woman on assignment for the first time, this is a particularly difficult assignment.

It seems that the University of Hail (formerly Hail Community College) has problems in staffing.
They are having problems in recruiting and keeping staff. Why have so many left of their own accord or after being fired ?
Come on, let us hear some of the horror stories ! |

Yes, there are many stories of those who have been to Hail and back.
In a nutshell, the place is a Mickey Mouse outfit being run by some very goofy people.
The residents often sing the song, "When You Wish Upon A Mishar, It Doesn't Matter, You Won't Go Very Far..."
Stay tuned..... |

| I have a friend who works at hail and he said it is okay. What is wrong with this school? Do they hire teachers with no experience? |

I've heard:
The main problem appears to be that the material is too difficult for the students.
The admin may promise more than it can deliver with regard to facilities.
The housing is top class for those who like the quiet life; unfortunately most western teachers don't like the quiet life. |

Messed-up text books is just the beginning of the UOH story.
The only people who like it here are with the "Mutes Group" who go along with the Neopotism oriented leadership positions.
The key word is: Wasta. Forget qualifed.
Late pay, renigged on overtimepay, and contract breeches are the norm.
If you enjoy substandard housing and living in a gulag style compund in the desert, this is paradise.
No phones in the offices. No internet for the office PCs. You buy your supplies. No CD players for classroom presentations.
Besides this place is in violation of Saudi Law. Your Iqama is supposed to be provided to you when you arrive for free.
No iqama and when you get one it is SAR 500.
Oh by the way, did I mention your housing is next to a Carnival Show. nice noise until midnight every night.
Just got to love it. |

I've never been 'nigged' let alone renigged. Sounds an interesting custom. Perhaps you could blog about it.

If you want to play about with words, then enjoy Hail, it is just your place.
renigged = backed out or refused to do.
If it makes you happy, then go with broke the terms of the contract. |

I don't think I'd enjoy Hail; everybody from there who posts on the forum seems so ill-tempered and crotchety.
'Reneged' and 'breaches' by the way.
And 'nepotism'. 'Neopotism' sounds like a new way of getting sozzled. |

I think some English native speakers need a refreshment course in English before going to teach in the ME.
What a pity for the Saudi students. |

| Hail is actually a magnificent place where one can live in primal simplicity and sepulchral isolation. |

I mean 'refreshment courses', in other words "revision courses" with an overhaul of memory in the English language.
Bahrain is for 'hollow legs' feckless and members of American/British toilet association. |

But the pure in heart such as Rennenkampf go for spiritual refreshment courses and pray for the souls of the feckless others. |

| Many of the problems faced by the University of Hail are normal for educational institutions in the Middle East that are undergoing a process of rapid change. Critics of UOH tend to ignore this simple fact; instead they direct their rage and malice at easily identifiable targets. Their inability to see the big picture causes them to spew fort a steady stream of venom. This kind of attitude is unwarranted and does little to enable potential new teachers to evaluate the instituion in a fair and unbiased manner. |
