I will have to stay one night before I get my connecting flight to Hainan, and when I land I will be tired, and just want a cheap bed, near the airport..

Any recommendations and how much will I need to budget for....I dont know Hong Kong at all....so I dont know the going rates for taxi etc...any advice much appreciated, I land at about 17.30 and have a flight out next day late am....so it really will be a question of room/bed/sleep/eat...I wont be doing any sightseeing etc

IT's not cheap near the airport! I think a thousand kuai is the asking price for a room!

If you head for HK downtown - 35 to 40 kms away - your options include guesthouses that charge from twohundred upward. No such place exists in CENTRAL, though - you have to go to Tsimshatsui in Kowloon!

It sounds a long way but is a surprisingly quick trip by train - "The Airport Express" which runs from the airport terminal (no roads to cross) to Central.
This is a very fast train - also very comfortable - and runs every 12 mintues to and from the airport. So, yes you could stay downtown without worrying about travelling time.

On the way from the airport into town, it stops at a few stations, including Kowloon.
If you're staying at a hotel you can get a special (free) bus at these stations and they take you right to your hotel (not sure how it would work for guesthouses tho).

Sorry I can't help with rcommendations for guesthouses but if you want a hotel, go online and check out a few of the onlline booking agencies (e.g. asiatravel dot com )

If it's only one night, and you're short of money, I would stay over at the airport. By the time you've got yourself out of the airport on the Airport Express train, you will pay an extra 100 dollars each way for the ride.

The airport is huge and has all sorts of facilities including free wireless internet connection (if you're bringing a laptop). There are also decent shower rooms and restaurants open until late into the night which are not too pricey.

You can easily find some vacant seats in a quiet spot in which to get a few z's. I know because I've done it myself - twice.

Alternatively, you can just try asking the tourist desk staff if there happens to be any special deal at the hotel airports going for when you arrive.

agree with poof. i've stayed over a couple of nights at airport. you can get into the travellers lounge pretty easy with the right "card". if it's only overnight it may not be worth travelling into HK to get a hotel especially if you're short of cash.

Hi poof,
In your Feb. 8 posting, you mentioned shower rooms at Hong Kong International Airport. ** How much does it cost to grab a shower? ** Where specifically in the airport do I go?

Thank you

on the airport website it lists a travellers lounge......there is beds, food, net, and showers, think the 12 hour stay is $80, but you can go for shorter times.....dont know where it is, ill be looking for it myself in just over a week........if you are there before me, post up an opinion on the place
