Hi there, i have recieved a job offer from a company in Kuwait City in a contracting and construction company named EUGC. Does anyone know anything about this company. They have offered me 400KD plus airfares for myself, medical for the family, annual leave, company car and accomodation. With regard to accomodation they will be getting back to me on Sunday. My position is as an executive secretary. i have completed a Business banking & Finace Diploma and am currrently half way through my Bachelor in Information Technology and Sytems. Is the package fair??
Also my husband has completed a bachelor in computer science and is now doing his masters in Networking, whats a fair salary for him??? anyone heard of ITIKUWAIT this is there website http://www.itikuwait.com/gallery.html
We are Australaians with a lebansese descent and we will be relocating to kuwait so if oneone may help us put with some info it would be highly appreciated..
Thanks in advance... |

You do realize that this is a board for English teachers. It is highly unlikely that anyone here will be knowledgeable about the employer or what kind of a pay scale a secretary or computer type gets.
The salary scale for our profession would be at least double your offer... so it is hard for us to judge your offer.
You are probably better off looking at how it compares to what you can earn in Australia. Look at the effect of being paid tax free and the benefits. I'm sure that your husband can find a job there.
But do try to check out the company... not sure how you could do that.

give her a break VS - she's fishing for valid info
if i may,
400 is entry level for your quals
the assistants of bona fide executives start at much more but the assistants have aub/auc/western bacholers and WORK THEIR ASSES OFF
WOOPS HIT THE WRONG KEY
AND POSTED PREMATURELY
anyway not the typical glorified secretary position
you'll have room and opportunity to transfer to another job in 1-2 years
good luck
'medical' may mean only coverage at govy hospitals and clinics - cheap - 1 kd per visit - but you get what you pay for
the parliment is griling the health minister (a member of the ruling family) because the ministry of health is SO inefficient
i had 2 wisdom teeth extracted here ages ago - that's another story |

I wasn't being hard on her... or the least bit rude... I just warning her the situation. This is the first time in at least 10 years that anyone other than a teacher got an answer about a request for salary information. Even PhD's have trouble getting answers here.
Have you ever heard of the company? Nothing came up when I googled the name she gave. I would worry about fly by night companies showing up to latch onto US military contracts...

Hi
You first.....400KD plus benefits is ok for what you outline as your skills set. You could likely make 350--400 as an Adminstrator without the benefits.
Your husband is another story. There are lots of Indians in his game. If he is well experienced, he could earn 600-700 if he is big standard, perhaps 400.
Either way, use the offers, do a year and find better jobs.
Don't worry about VS, she thinks she's the webmaster and will always jump on folks for asking perfectly fine questions..... unless ofcourse they haev 10 years EFL exp and an MA . Our VS just can't walk away from the TEFLer world.....poor soul is institutionalised
Good luck in Kuwait, the Lebs have a great support network and a fine set of folks they are too! |

my figures for her salary are based on being fluent in ARABIC and ENGLISH
secretaries with just one language get less
if he can be an ARABIC web master , no indian can touch him - bilingualism is a great advantage here |

I agree that a secretary not fluent in Arabic would get less, though not much less. An adminsitrator can squeeze 350-400 minus any kind of benefits. The benefots the OP outlines, compensate the language advantage. That said, there are many subcontinentals on much more without Arabic ability. As you know, it all comes down to the company.
400 + bennies is ok for the first gig.
I think the OP said networking rather than web design. In which case, I don't think language is going to come into it. The Indians and Pakistanis run the local IT market, all the way through. He'll be judged on work specific skills, not language. Any place paying a good salary will us English and the working language.
Anyways, good luck to'em both and nice one 15 years for taking the time to respond....... between the exp on the board, I'm sure most queries can be answered.
Anyone speding any kind of time in a country, who hasn't hidden themselves away with just other TEFLifers will have a good idea what other professions make. |

Obviously not true as some of us do not pump our friends and acquaintances for salary and benefit information that is none of our own business.
More useful than salary guesses would be if someone knew something about this company...
... and Ms Boo... It is nice to see that one of your posts has finally actually been of some assistance to someone rather than complaints and gratuitous attacks. I had you pictured as this sad TEFLifer whose only hobby was trolling on boards...

Perhaps your most irritable pass time |
I do crosswords, watch football, write crap here and drink beer to pass time. Is that irritable?
Surely you must have some irritable pass times? |

ITI is located on a floor inside an oldish building housing a busy shopping complex along the street in Farwanyia that runs to the right just after the Fire Station. They have done what they can to fit the floor out suitably for doing courses in I.T. and open a Coffee Bar for student clients.
The place becomes chaotic and noisy during vacation summer months with Kuwaiti/Arab children doing daily Summer Club to keep them occupied and out of their homes with English language, crafts and group fun trips around Kuwait. During such times, they engage extra temporary tutors @ KD 6 hourly who are on their own holiday time and might wish to do some extra before or after their own travel - - or if not going away. ITI do not organise their schdules very well and forget to inform tutors that they will not be required on the children's trip days outside - hence the payment for expected hours of work are also lost for the tutors. The Indian Manager Mr Jameel is polite, as are the female Arab admin staff and receptionists. Apart from that, their emphasis is on Asians - having found their niche in the market when previously based in Kuwait city. |
