Anyone worked in any? What are the opportunities in International Schools for native speaking teachers in Europe?
Which countries might have the most options to investigate?
Thanks.

Regarding your posts on the Germany and Czech Rep forums, and this one too -
such posts require a teaching certification from your home country in a core subject (math, science, etc.) and some experience. They are relatively few and far between. There are job fairs that cover such positions.
You aren't likely to get tons of responses on any of the three forums, because most teachers in International schools aren't teaching EFL. They are teaching core subjects. There are a few such positions, but they are few!! |

I'm currently working on the qualification end of things, a Masters in Education. Just trying to plan on where to work when I'm finished.
Any ideas which agencies hold the job-fairs you mentioned?

Thanks. I thought so. I thought the EFL teachers would know the scene anyway.

Look up the website of the IB. They do post job openings in different IB schools around the world. |

Does your Master of Education also get you a teaching certificate? I ask because some don't and without the teaching certificate you are very unlikely to get a job at an international school. I'm currently working at an international school in Japan and all teachers here are certified. Some of my collegues have worked in Europe and they say it is very competitive with low turnover. Almost every school requires at least 2 years of classroom teaching experience in your home country and many require experience teaching in international schools. Most schools want you to have IB (or PYP or MYP for younger students) experience. Some schools in southern Europe (Spain, Italy, Portugal for example) are less demanding but the salary is quite low and teachers I know who have worked there have had to supplement their income with after school tutoring just to get by and in general have very little money for travelling and trips home. You could try this link for more info:

Good luck. |

Here are some other websites that you can check out. The websites are very popular and people rave about them, but you have to pay a fee.

You said that you are getting an M.A. That is great because many European schools prefer to hire teachers that have a master's and a doctorate degree. If you plan on living in Europe, make sure you save plently of money before you go because the cost of living is ridiculous. The berlitz website gives suggestions on how much money you should save before you move to another country. |

You're right. My Masters will not automatically get me a certificate. I'm planning on doing the pgce next year to sort that out. After that I want to think about where to work.
Thanks very much for the excellent info. Very useful. |
