| Hi! I've had firsthand experience with RTT. I was really nervous coming to Taiwan as it was my first time traveling overseas. I had many questions about, well everything! Everyone at RTT were quick to reply to every question. I was vey impressed and it reassured me that they knew what they are doing! I know that if I need help with anything when I'm here I can call RTT and they'll do everything in their power to help me! All the good thing that ppl have said about RTT on here is true. If you want piece of mind before and after you come to Taiwan, come through RTT! If I were to do it all again I would definitely go through RTT. Highly recommended. |

I agree Toe,
And I hope I was wrong because I thought that they were one of the very few recruiters to go through here without getting royally screwed. I just seems very coincidental to have now a few first time posters laying on the praise for one specific company in particular. The grammar and writing style just seem way too similar to each other.
I have seen this happen where a dodgy company is suddenly praised without complaint. I'm not wanting to lump reach to teach in the same category. I just hope that I am wrong and they are indeed above that. |

Sorry if I came off as anti-RTT. My intention was just to share information that could be potentially helpful to someone planning out his/her timeline. As I said, they seemed really nice. |

Hoh boy...is it that time of year again? N00bs, please ignore everything, EVERYTHING, Aristotle has to say. He is a malcontent who drones on and on about how terrible Taiwan is.
See Wally.....I told you he'd be back. |

Ha, if Aristotle is saying it's a bad idea, it's probably true that it's a GOOD idea.

Ki, assuming that some kind of posting fraud took place likely isn't fair. There have been a lot of nice things said about Reach To Teach on these forums for a long time. They have a lot of teachers in Taiwan. Makes sense that they would share similar, positive opinions. As Toe said, they likely sent out an email to some of their teachers asking them to post their experiences. That seems fine to me! |

I really had no doubt, I was just hoping it was going to be a bit longer before the return. Oh well, although it seems that it may just be a quick layover before he moves to the Korea forums so who knows... |

Ki,
I've been reading on dave's since for over a year, but i don't post much, or ever. i'll totally admit that i was told that there was a thread on RTT. I guess I'm not that creative in my writing, lol. But what I have to say about RTT is totally sincere. I can't sing their praises enough. I can't prove i'm not a fraud, but i'm really not! |

Well looks like i'm in a minority of folks who had a bad experience with RTT.
About 2 months before coming to Taiwan, I sought out RTT and had a phone interview. The interview went great it was very professional and I was informed of how the job placement process works. I was told that, according to my understanding, I was going to be introduced to a few schools and I would ultimately choose the school that best suited me. Soon enough I got my airticket and sent RTT my itenerary so I could insure that I would recieve the airport pick-up and get help in setting up. Thereafter, I recieved an e-mail of a possible school that I may be eligible for, but I was fairly unsure of whether I wanted to choose it as I had a few friends work for the school (a chain won't say name) and they had in general bad experiences with the school. Regardless, I was going to be able to check it out when I ARRIVED. Thus far everything is good with them...
A few weeks pass, I send RTT an e-mail informing them that I will be arriving soon and looked forward to meeting with them. The reply I got informed me that all slots became filled with the school they sent me because I didn't keep in contact with them (2 weeks of no e-mailing, didn't really see the purpose as we would be getting down to business when I arrived), they then told me they didn't know what to do with me job wise and didn't know when I was coming either. I was completely dumbfounded-I had thought I was going to see the school and I had sent them my itenarary-how could they not know when I was coming? This set of circumstances really irked me. First, I was told that I was gonna select a job when I arrived, yet afterwards they tell me there are no jobs available because I didn't select the one they e-mailed to me. Secondly, I sent them my flight itenerary expecting the pick-up which was stated yet they somehow forget when I was coming.
Consequently, after this situation I stopped bothering with them, and sought work on my own and with the help of other recruiters. Looking back the only thing I can think of where I went wrong was with not keeping in contact yet it was only two weeks of no contact and I didn't know what to say for keeping in contact as, according to my understanding, we were only gonna get down to business when I arrived.
SO I guess my experience with them is negative, I'm sure others would have positive experiences as they are a strong professional organization and they would only get that way with positive experiences. |

As an obvious supporter of RTT I have stayed out of this one till now.
I think that most foreign teachers who have never been to Taiwan before and who are a bit hesitant about the move would agree that it would be great to have someone who speaks English as clearly as you do guiding you through the process. Someone who chooses schools carefully and ensures that they comply with certain standards. Someone who also vets teachers to ensure that they are not just placing any old sodd at any old school. And finally someone who keeps in touch with you and helps you network with other foreigners after you arrive. So basically a company that takes the process of recruiting foreign teachers somewhat professionally.
This is what RTT does, and this is why they get my full support.
As the number of teachers they place increases there are undoubtedly going to be some people who do complain about their services. I think that it would be impossible to keep all of the punters happy all of the time. What is important is that to date we have not seen any serious complaints that you do see with some other recruiters!
There are certain people who will always place recruiters into a box together and label them all crooks! That to me is just ignorant and counter constructive. There are certainly some unsavory recruiters out there and this is precisely why we should all help to identify and give credit to those companies that are doing the right thing by the foreign teachers they place.
To me RTT has earned our support. |

Hi everyone. I'm a Reach To Teach teacher as well. I joined their team last year and I can honestly say that it's a great company to get involved with. I worked in China for three years before I decided to move to Taiwan. The first place I started job hunting was here on Dave's ESL. That's when I noticed Reach To Teach on the job boards.
Generally speaking, most teachers over here will tell you that recruiting agencies and teacher placement services are not the way to go. I could add my own horror stories, but I won't because that myth is slowly being dispelled with companies like Reach To Teach.
Reach To Teach is a great company. It's a small company and the folks there generally care about your well-being and happiness. My fiance and I decided to go through Reach To Teach because we liked the idea of having someone else sort out the good schools and the bad for us. After speaking with Mitch Gordon, Head of Teacher Recruiting, we were willing to take a chance. We didn't have anything to lose and gained far more than either one of us was expecting.
The length of our interview was determined by us, as we took our time and made sure we had all our questions answered ahead of time. Plus, Mitch really took the time to listen to what kind of job we were looking for and he placed us in a great school. He came and met us at the airport, despite being really sick with the flu. He brought us to our new school and personally introduced us to the director and manager. He has remained in close contact with us throughout the year. We've become good friends with Mitch and the rest of the staff and teachers at RTT. In fact, we're getting ready to look for new jobs through RTT when we return from North American in June. Despite the fact that we could find our own jobs, we've figured why bother when we know RTT has our backs?
We've had a great year at our school and an even better year with the staff and teachers at RTT. RTT has monthly get togethers and outings. We have our own flag football team. Reach To Teach is also an active member in Taipei community events, and sponsors local community events on a regular basis. We've completely enjoyed all the RTT sponsored events and are looking forward to another one next weekend on the 10th.
Feel free to ask me any questions. I'm happy to reply. |

Yeah, that's all fine and good, but I hear that Mitch Gordon guy is a Yankees fan. That alone would stop me from ever doing business with such an abomination. Come on, we got to have standards people.
According to HST (No, not that HST, the other HST), there is nothing more helpless or depraved in this world than a man in the depths of an ether binge................I'd have to add.....with the singular exception of a Yankees fan.
Buyer beware. How can you trust your future career in Asia to someone that dreams in pinstripes? Besides, if this Mitch guy makes any more money, he may feel the need to breed. Then what would we end up with? The pitter patter of little Yankees fanling cleats.......it's gotta stop somewhere people.
Boycott R2T....that's what I say.
