Canon V80 and Casio XD-470 have the stylus so you can write in the kanji. Don't know how well they recognize sloppy handwriting. One of them I tried in a store was horrible, even when my Japanese wife entered the kanji!!
As mentioned, what is important to know is AFTER you get the kanji entered or found, what comes up? If it's just more kanji as a definition, what good is it to you if you can't read it? Catch-22. If anyone knows models that come up with English (or at least romaji) definitions, give a shout. |

The next step is to use the "jump" feature, highlight the characters again, so that it comes up in hiragana. You will be able to read that. Don't shy away from an electronic dictionary for the fear of not being able to read the kanji. It's just another step to get the hiragana. |

| I'm not a fan of electronic dictionaries. I find people who use them rely on them instead of just remembering the word once they've looked it up. Plus they are more fragile than a paper dictionary when you're at some enkai and some drunk guy lands on top of it (like when you fall down). |

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding, but don't a lot of the electronic dictionaries have E-E, J-E, J-J, and E-J features? On the one I mentioned above (Canon IDF-4100), I used the J-E feature a lot to get the meaning in English. |
