The 3rd annual "March in March" sponsored by Nambu Foreign Workers Caucus in taking place this Sunday.

Here is a link to the relevant details for where/when the march is taking place.

FWIW, I went to this last year and it was a blast! I even got to meet (and have a beer) with everyone's favourite human rights activist Debito Arudo afterwards. I encourage everyone to come out and support this great cause this year.

I invited all my friends to join us in 2006, and was disappointed when one of my own co-workers responded:

"Sorry, I have no complaints about my job -- so there's no point in me being there."

That's an unfortunate attitude to have (especially for someone who has already lived here for many years and will continue to live here for many more). This is about EVERYONE. YOu may be happy with your job right now -- but there is a much larger picture -- one which affects all foreigners working in Japan. We want workers rights for all and not just for the ones who are currently unhappy.

Anyway, I have no time to go on about this, but I do hope everyone takes this event into consideration and lends their support.

Hey Jim,

Pity I'm in Nagoya, swamped by my PhD and a baby on the way... nevertheless you have my support.

Question though about unions.

Given I'm in Chubu, what is the best union to join?

I was never really a union dude before, back in Oz, but I had good employers there. Now that I'm in Japan, and will be for some years to come, the law and all of its potential, ramifications etc is becoming increasingly important for me. Especially issues around health insurance etc.

So, if you or anyone else in Chubu could let me know the best avenues, it would be much appreciated.
