I got a shaken done on my car yesterday, which set me back 93k, though much less than the 13 man they said it might cost, so I was happy about that.

Now, they put a sticker on the car on the right of the windscreen which I previously thought was for road tax. I was expecting to pay 4 man or whatever in April for this, in addition to renewing my insurance. I couldn't understand for sure, but the guy seemed to be telling me that a year's tax was included in the shaken. This would obviously make me a happy man, but I'm not sure at all if I understood him currently.

Can anyone tell me if this is true or not?

Thanks.

That's different.... In May you have to pay a tax on your vehicle (about 43,000 yen) which will be payable to the city in which you live...

The other taxes due on the vehicle are paid at shaken time...

Which is why it's not nice to have your shaken due between March and June -- you have to save up more yen for both fees.

The sticker they gave you is probably a temporary proof of shaken until they mail you the normal one....

Another option is a K car. I have 2 k cars and it is cheaper to run than 1 with a white plate. Shaken is 40,000 for 2 yrs and the yearly tax is 8,000. Often you can pick these up for free or close to it.
