Anyway, let us know how the raise goes. If it comes out of the President's entertainment fund [unlikely], cool.
If it costs a gate attendant or kitchen hand, or possibly both, their jobs, well at least your honour is satisfied. And remember, if someone's post seems to vaguely support you, quote it in full!
Meanwhile, I'm going back to writing my genetics textbook, for which I'm well qualified. Two degrees, you know.[/quote]

You really need to learn some comprehension skills mate. I like the lawyer - i said already that he is a better negotiator - fair dues to him.

'if someone's post seems to vaguely support you, quote it in full!'

I quote cut and paste my own way - if this is the best you can do - then you are really struggling for a come back

'Anyway, let us know how the raise goes'

I teach Fridays in an affiliated primary school in Bengbu - there was a dinner last night. I talked to the boss. 7,500. I started at 9 but its ok.

'If it costs a gate attendant or kitchen hand, or possibly both, their jobs, well at least your honour is satisfied.'

Every FT in China earns 3-10 times a local wage. If you have ever earned such a wage then throwing it back at anyone is hypocitical at best

'I'm going back to writing my genetics textbook, for which I'm well qualified. Two degrees, you know'

Id like to see that book. Rule of thumb - science is difficult -arts - not so much.

It'd be about as thick as yours on pedagogy.
Rule of thumb: Science is for regurgitators, Arts for digesters.
Have you got that offer in writing yet? If so, well done.

Oh, and keep working on that quote function. A science boffin should get it eventually. Stay with the big blocks in the meantime. Wink

So the question - what should I ask for to stay - is there some kind of standard second year raise? Any thoughts? Experience? Suggestions?

Have your employer's costs gone up? Rent, textbooks, local labor?

Does your employer have large debt to pay down?

Is your employer quietly shopping the school for sale and wants to keep the labor percentage looking low until the sale is made?

Does your employer have financial obligations that might preclude giving a raise?

Have you looked at BOTH sides of the equasion?

your just looking to get a rise out of others

While I'm trying to figure it out, here's a couple lines from our dear, departed NathanRahl:

Your like some dopey kid who says "Bounces off me and sticks to you". http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?p=510950&highlight=#510950

Bianca your going to hear the same self serving twaddle from 20 different people.
http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?p=509656&highlight=#509656

Actually thats not all it takes, thats all it takes where you are, so saying thats all it takes is yuo saying your right everywhere, and I am wrong everywhere.

Don't forget about the "thats". Wink

Oh dear, now I've gotten myself involved.

But there was some word that he (NathanRahl) would add an apostrophe to that it didn't need, but I'll be danged if I can remember it! And he'd do it consistently but when anyone would try and correct him on it, he'd get all bent out of shape. Ahh, good times!

Nathan got hammered into submission. Twisted Evil Had I known you enjoyed playing with him so much, I would have lightened up, and maybe he'd have hung around awhile. Give me a heads up next time. Laughing Vandros may not be far behind (and don't let the door hit you in the azz on the way out Exclamation ) Actually I think Nathan was more tolerable than Vandross. Maybe he's right. maybe I really do need a shrink Embarassed . Woot! Good times!

Zhuhao,

Shawn
