HI, I been reading the topics here and really hope that you guys can help boost my confidence!

I applied for HESS back in February, and interviewed with a recruiter on the 26th. He told me I would hear back from the people in Taiwan in about 1 week. ---- One week goes by- no sign so I called the recruiter to ask about my application status. He said that my application is still under review and to wait. So, I waited. I finally receive an email from a HESS coordinator in Taiwan last Friday (3/09), but all he said was "We will provide you with an update on your application and interview on 03/14/2007."

WAH (ToT) what does that mean???? I've been feeling so anxious when checking my e-mail for the past 2 weeks. I was more confuse at the email that I got, didn't know if I should be happy or if there is something that I need to be prepare for.

Those that have been been offered a contract by HESS, is this how it is? What was your procedure like? Was it a long a wait as me...

I'm crossing my fingers for some good/positive response! d-(^o^)-b

Thanks,
ParaIchigo

Keep applying for jobs, and accept the first one that feels right to you. You have no obligation to anyone, and the fact that they haven't gotten back to you could mean they have already taken a pass on you.

Yet another good reason to just come over and look for a job on the streets, instead of on the information superhighway. Show up at Hess or KoJen or any other such language mill and get a job. Geeez, Louise, it ain't rocket science. Yes. it's more difficult if you are a visible minority, regardless of your perfect syntax......but there are still jobs a plenty, even for FBCs and AAs. And with a new round of drug busts going on, should be even more jobs soon.

well it's not like they didn't respond... they did. It's just that it's took them longer than their "usual" time to respond.

PS
I have NO intention of flying to Taiwan THEN finding a job. hahhaah that's too spontaneous for me.

and I am not white, I'm Southeast Asian, so they might automatically think I can't speak English well eventhough HESS said they don't judge that...it's still a stigma.

Fair enough. Have you tried Reach to Teach? Footprints?

Sorry Wally. You missed the boat on this one. I wasn't being sarcastic or caustic. I used the phrase to illustrate that no matter how good your "English" is, if you don't look it, you'll have some difficulty.

I'm not always a dink Wally. Wink

But, in re=reading the OP, I can see why you'd think I was being dink-ish. I missed that first time thru.

Here's one: Language schools like Hess -- are they ever willing to work something out with you where you would work ten or eleven months instead of twelve? I ask because of when I would need to be back in the States if I go back next year. Thx .... Mep

I would think HESS would take you for 10 or 11 months. Almost definitely for 11 months. Probably depends on what time of the year you want to come.

HESS really takes anyone.... and I mean ANYONE, so I would say your chances are pretty good. Do you have a pulse?

Also, the people at the Head Office are notoriously slow at getting back to people and missing deadlines. They are just disorganized in general... I never had my observations or trainings when they were scheduled..... if you ask them a question, they will often need reminders to get back to you.... the Head Office at HESS is like one big, inside joke with all of their teachers.

They are really nice people, actually, but just overwhelmed and overworked. Just a big lack of professionalism. It's not surprising when you think about it though. They just take people who have been teaching for a few years and put them in a head office to train people and run a HUGE HR department. None of them have any professional background, or majored in HR or anything like that. They do the best they can, but it's all shoestring stuff.

They have a fancy website, but don't let that fool you.

If that. The people who trained me had maximum 2 years experience teaching with Hess (which isnt even real teaching), never mind any experience outside of the company or god forbid, actual teaching qualifications.

As for the 10/11 month contract u can dream on, an initial contract is for 12 months and a resign is for 6 or 12 months but u dont get holidays for the 6 month.

I know, it really is amazing when you think about it. One would think that a Company as large as HESS would hire at least ONE person with a proper educational background. However, as far as I am aware, it's just a bunch of ex-"teachers" they moved to the Head Office.

When it comes down to it, this is a reflection of the fact that they just don't care about educational standards at HESS. They'd rather take the cheapest route possible. They could certainly afford to hire someone with a strong pedagogical background in education. They don't really care though.... it's all about fun and games..... and money.

Hess is run like an overnight camp when you were a kid. The people in the head office are like the head counselors.... that was fun when you were 10. It's obnoxious after you hit your 20's.

Actually, that's not fair. Overnight camps were more organized!
