Hi have any of you guys/girls heard of the Arab development Institute.
It has contracts with English first in Khobar and Riyadh.
I have been offered work at 6000 per month plus free (almost) everythng but they wont show me a pic of my apartment and i smell a rat/goat.
Any advice.

6000 SR a month is very low by Saudi standards. The better places pay at least 9000 SR. I don't think the lack of an apartment photo is neccessarily a bad sign, but make sure that you will not be sharing with another teacher. Many of the lower-paying employers try to do this. |

I have never heard of any institution in the Middle East providing pictures of the flat one would get... that would be a first... Is there even anywhere in the world that would do that?
Besides, few of them know which one you would be in until just before you arrive.

So if i come and get 6000 per month, how much could i save??
PLEASE ADVISE ME, I REALLY NEED THE ADVICE |

The rat that you smell should be because of the pay ! 8000 or more should be the starting salary. If you are working 48 hours it should be even more.
Only take this if you are desperate or want an entry-level position. You might save US$800 a month on this. |

You can only barter if you have something to offer... like educational credentials and experience...

SR 6000 is an atrocious salary for a western passport holder, and the hours are even more atrocious. Forget about it. |

I agree with SJ.....Also would recommend you take the time necessary to research this company and talk to someone who is there working with them and can give you good advice about working for that particular employer. If you have been viewing this site for a while you will have noticed that there are many opportunites for an ESL teacher in KSA....you don't have to jump at the first offer. And personally Riyadh would not be my first choice. Eastern provinces offer quick and easy access to Bahrain, Jeddah offers big city life-style and weekends at the beach.
You may have other reasons for wanting to live in KSA...but, IMO, the fulus is number one. Make sure it is worthwhile....otherwise the other motivational factors may fade fast. |

tudodude, have you accepted this offer? I hope not. You should be able to get something better than this. Tell us, what's your passport? Your qualifications and experience? And where was this job advertised? Didn't you notice other jobs offering better pay? 6000 rats really does stink.
I think it's too late to warn you off, going by your missing link post. Pity. Unless it really is the best you can do. If so, good luck. If, as you wrote, everything's provided, you should be able to save SR5,950 (if you've got the necessary moral fibre and intent.)
Lots of ifs = iffy? |
