Hey everybody. I'm currently working Prague with a TEFL certificate but I'm itching to get back to Spain and do some teaching there. I'd really like to teach in Barcelona, but I've heard it is difficult to get a job there, and that Madrid is better. Is there really that much of a difference in job availability/salary between the two cities?

Also, I've been trying to decide when to head to Spain. Is it better to go during the summer and spend time putting in resumes and finding private students, or will I just be wasting my time/money, and should rather go in September at the start of the new semester?

Any information or thoughts anyone has will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is definitely work in both cities, a bit more in Madrid though (and a bit less competition from the entire world seemingly wanting to work in Barcelona: Madrid really isn't that bad!).

There's not much point in you sending your cv around until the end of August: basically all the students go away on holiday during that month, and so the owners/managers of the schools generally take the opportunity to take their holidays at the same time.

That said, you might want to get yourself physically in whichever city you choose mid-August in order to get your bearings, get a mobile phone sorted out, look for a room etc., and generally enjoy the atmosphere before you start running around.
