I just want to know how japanese women respond to western men who go there to teach. I am not in japan yet but it's my top priority. Also where you find the best places to meet women in japan are since i heard there are no night clubs.

Best Regards
Scott

No night clubs?!?!?!

Where the devil did you get that idea?!?!

Tokyo has (in my opinion) one of THE all time best clubbing scenes in the world- kicks London, New York, L.A. Sydney and Berlin (all major night clubbing cities in which I've 'done some time').

'Course if you're a bit out in the hinterlands- you might be high and dry.

As for the Japanese women question- I won't be drawn into that one. I see too many 'Charisma Man' western men who come over here and act like total lechers with the women- pathetic .

Please don't take that as an attack on you auckies- obviously I don't know you so I wouldn't make any assumptions.

It's just those of us who've been here for a while get a bit sick of seeing guys coming over just to score with the babes.

Oops, guess I got drawn in a bit- so I'll end it. But trust me, the night club scene in Tokyo is fantastic!

cheers,
ryuro

Reactions are complex.

I had a female supervisor (Japanese yes) who thought of me as far less than human.

I had a few Japanese teacher co-workers who were great people to work with and there was far more a sense of comraderie than of "cultural otherness."

I had Japanese teachers ("JSL") who had lived abroad, and in my more advanced classes we were able to connect on the level of professional kindred spirits.

I had two women (strangers) in the elevator compare my weight to 10 Japanese people (I'm a sports nut, and was at the time as well.)

I had the owner of a local diner (Mom of a Mom and Pop place) always serve me extra stuff whenever I went and asked me to "feel at home."

I had two young women refuse to answer an innocent/pertainant question - or even aknowledge my existance (not because they were aloof - just afraid of the "gaijin.")

I had one of those kleenex girls give me about 2 months' supply of kleenix because I asked.

I had a bank teller refuse to do a telegraphic transfer after telling me it was possible.

I had a Japanese woman as a guarator of my apartment.

Um . . . am I getting close? I think you're implying romance. In that case . . . all of the above applies in various indirect ways.

Some women in Japan won't have anything to do with "gaijin boyfriends." These are a very few, but I have met one or two.

A few might date you only for the novelty of it all (happened to one friend), or for free English lessons (happened to another.)

Some won't give a darn where their husband comes from. I've met women married to non-Japanese guys (husband from Amercia, Korea, Austrailia, UK, etc.) A lot of them seem happily married (or in happy long term relatinships.)

The kleenex girl was probably very happy you asked. They have to give out all their advertisements before they are finished. You made it so she could go home early.

Please, of please let's not get into another man woman war!!!!

Perhaps in addition to the thread that Foster suggested, we could also refer auckies to Capergirl's threads:

The Lure of the Exotic Partner
Give it a rest, guys

I think those threads will provide numerous perspectives, and hopefully help us avoid another war--we certainly do not need another one to compete with the one still a-ragin' on the "city vs. country" thread!

(What is happening to the Japan Forum?!?!? Where has the looooove gone???)

Group hug, everyone!

aukies,
If you are just trolling, I suggest you go elsewhere.

If you are serious and mean that you plan to come to Japan for the women and not so much for the teaching, I suggest you go elsewhere.

I have to agree with Glenski...both as a teacher and a woman. Embarassed

And, guest of Japan, I concur, NO MORE MAN/WOMAN bashing! Rolling Eyes

Reading the post from "auckies" above and those on this thread, I am going to go out on a limb and say that I think he is not a native speaker of English. Just call it 'ESL teacher intuition'. Wink

Wo! Wo, wo, wo, wo, wo............... Surprised

Lighten up a bit.

Try exercise! I find it improves my outlook on things a lot. Wink

Regrdless, if the guy wants to come here and have a good time as well as teach what's the problem?

Anyways, "Auckie" don't worry, the women here, like almost anywhere, are friendly and will be glad to go out with I'm sure. Cool
