Hello, I am just weighing my options here! I would love to travel to a Spanish speaking country where I can make a good amount of money. So far it seems as if I would have to start of in Japan. I am a newbie with a TESOL Certification and BS in Communicationo. I would choose Spain but I know I would have problems obtaining an EU passsport. So what other Spanish speaking country would be my next best choice were I can make a comfortable living? I would have to also pay credit card debt and student loans back in the state where I am from!

Try Equatorial Guinea. Oil industry might pay you, but then you'd probably need to be a Brit, too.

Most people will tell you that the above is not possible.
How much will your debt payments be? You can probably get the student loans deferred, but running up credit card debt was a big booboo if you want to live in Latin America. If you have to make monthly payments hire than 300 dollars, forget it. Even more than 150 a month can be very difficult. There are good paying jobs in Latin America but most are jobs you will have to move up the ladder to, not entry level jobs. Look at Korea or Taiwan and once you get the credit card payoff, set it aside and don't touch it except to buy airline tickets on-line with, and then bring the experience you have gained in Asia to Latin America and get a better than entry level job.

Just my advice, but they say "mama knows best" Laughing

I agree with Melee. There really aren't Latin American countries that pay well enough to send money back home. Your plan of starting in Japan sounds good, if you can save some money there (it can even be hard to do in Japan sometimes!).

Work in Japan until you are out of debt, then go to a Spanish speaking country when you don't owe anybody anything- remember that you likely won't be able to put decent money into a retirement plan if you are thinking of doing this for a career and have hopes of returning to the US.

Due to the cost of living, you can probably pay off your debt faster in Korea than Japan. Going out to restaurants, drinking places etc costs a lot in Japan, too.

I fugured that may not be possible thanks evryone. Yes, TESOL is going to be my new career. I just have to make some final decisons then I want to leave as early as October/November of this year. Can anyone reccomend schools in Japan and South Korea. I can make up my mind which to go to first. I want to go to Japan but I keep hearing its exspensive and I would be able to save more in South Korea. This will be my last and final choice Japan or Korea.

Mama does know best, great advice. I look at it this way, if you want the freedom that the TEFL lifestyle gives you, the first thing to get rid of is your debt.
