I am now resident in Turkey and about to get married. When I left the UK last April (for Korea - another story how I got diverted to Turkey) I thought I would only be gone a year and therefore left boxes of my household goods with family and friends.

Now it appears I will be living in Turkey for some time at least and I can't leave my stuff filling other people's lofts and sheds indefinitely. Some things I could sell or throw away but there are many things I don't want to part with and I guess it would be cheaper to ship them here than pay for storage.

I don't want to move my furniture here (except one or two favourite pieces) because I let my home furnished.

Does anyone have any advice/experience about moving stuff here? If you could recommend a good company I would appreciate it.

BTW I did a 'search' on this and found some previous threads but they were mainly advising against certain companies etc. My stuff amounts to more than I could fly with and more than I could post. I did post a couple of large boxes here from Korea and they arrived safely after about 18 weeks with no problems from customs.

i haven't sent anything here bigger than what would fit into a box. i have pressed visitors into service by asking them to bring boxes as part of their baggage. (this is from the US, btw). otherwise i have mailed myself boxes, which takes a long time and is a hassle to pick up at the gumruk ptt, but at least they get here. i still have some stuff in the us and will send it this summer and then everything will be here, after all these years. stuff!! it really sticks to you. i haven't quite completely got the knack of nonattachment...
