I am thinking of teaching in Argentina in september, and i was wondering what sort of school is required for most jobs there. I am a certified teacher and have a bachelors, but the person I am travelling with will have only a TESOL certificate. Is there a lot of work there for people with only TESOL certificates? I was also wondering if living comfortably on a teacher wage there would be plausable.
Thanks! |

Generally speaking, it doesn't seem like a degree is necessary to teach English in Argentina. Particularly in Buenos Aires, there are plenty of jobs that you don't need any degree at all in order to do.
Also, September seems to be a very bad time to come here for teaching as many institutes will be closing at around December for break. The best time to come seems to be now.
Check out other posts on the forum, there's tons of information available. |

I came to Argentina specifically to take a TEFL certification course in Buenos Aires. I thought it would be easy and that teaching would be the tough part, but I had no idea what I was in for. The course I took was TEFLocal, and it was extremely challenging. We had to teach classes to beginner Argentine English students on our very first day, and every day after that for 4 weeks. I have no idea what I would have done without this course. The trainers are extremely capable, funny, but very demanding, and I don't think one of us in the class felt like they didn't know what they were doing by the last week. Now as I'm going into my first week of teaching English to businessmen and women, I feel completely prepared to be an effective teacher.
So perhaps you don't need certification to teach in Buenos Aires, but there are so many English speakers down here all competing for the same jobs, so I'm just really glad I took the one month to get the degree. |

Epicjunkie, he already stated that he has a TESOL certificate but was asking whether a university degree is necessary. In my experience for most jobs in institutes here a bachelors degree is not a requirement.
Regarding your second question, there are a lot of posts including some recent ones regarding pay in Buenos Aires (and the best time to arrive). |
