I have searched this bored for quite some time without finding the answers so here goes:

I'm a newb to this. I'm 27, causassian Male with a B.A. and an online TEFL certificate (which I hear may be worthless). I have experience teaching english in a foreigh language (at a deaf school...if that counts), and can play several instruments if that will help with class. Other than that, I'm a newbie.

I am interested in teaching in either Korea or China. I have read enough on this board to know what to look for contractually and how to find if a school is reputable, etc... However, I would like to begin teaching this fall (September) with a friend in either Korea or China and am curious if I have missed the window for applying for jobs? Will I still be able to find something decent if I beging applying this late?

any and all information would be of great assitance. Thanks everyone.

If you want to teach at a private institute it does not matter. Most private institutes hire all year round. Most space their teachers out so all of them do not leave at once.

I cannot say for China but for Korea most public schools hire for people to start in March or September. That would be at the start of the school year or the start of school after summer vacation.

I have never worked in a hogwon so I cannot say how the working environment is. I think one major reason for working in public schools is that you are less likely to get ripped off since the government is paying you. Furthermore, hopefully public schools are really interested in education and not just making classes fun to bring in students.
