Have searched, but not much came up. Anyone have info about the MA in TESOL at SIT in Vermont? Solid reputation in the USA? And abroad? |

It's one of the most famous (and best) schools for language study in the U.S. and in the world. The M.A. in TESOL is quite highly regarded. The SIT is really known for its focus on cross-cultural understanding and learning, so you'd be in a really interesting atmosphere on campus. |

It has an excellent reputation. If I had had different circumstances (ie. I had been born into money) I would have studied there. If you have 30-40K lying around, go for it. Otherwise, I can't see it being worth so much money and so much debt the majority of us would have to incur, we are teachers for goodness sakes. Just my opinion. |

A number of years ago I did a study abroad program with the SIT in Africa. It was AMAZING, really well run. One of the fomative experiences in my life. I just looked at their MATESOL program on the website. It sounds wonderful. (wouldn't work for me personally, as I have kids.) Good luck. |

I forgot to mention that Brattleboro is not much of a town. I don't see how you could live there without a car. There are nicer parts of Vermont. |

Not sure about the MA program in Vermont, but I just completed the certification program from the organization, and have to say it was well run and quite helpful. Even the experienced teachers learned a lot in the four-week course. I'd assume the MA program would be that much better. |

It does have a very well know reputation and some of their instructors are leaders in the field.
But, just so this isn't all glowing. I think their grads come out a little too "touchy feely-new agey" especially if they haven't taught before doing the program.
I also think there are other schools that have very high quality programs at a fraction of the cost. I don't think this is a case of "you get what you pay for" I think you can get equally good preparation for less and they are overcharging for what they are providing. |
