|
|
Hi from Australia and yes, I have perused a lot of postings before composing this!
I'm a 41-year-old male graduate with a BA and Grad Dip Ed (Curriculum Specialisation Secondary English). I am also seeking accreditation in ITC thanks to a year of multimedia. I am currently casual teaching about 3 days per week while looking for permanent work.
I'm interested in teaching possibilities overseas - both now and in a couple of years time when I will have more experience.
My questions are:
Would International and Language schools be interested in employing me? Does the pay vary and by how much?
What kind of salary could I make in say the Middle East and SE Asia?
Would there be much point getting a CELTA certification given my specialisation?
Any other thoughts appreciated.
Thanks. |

If your credentials mean that you have a teaching license in your home country, yes, international schools would be interested, especially if you have a year or 2 of experience.
Language schools in many countries don't even care what your degree is in, so yes, you could be eligible. Maybe even overqualified.
Curriculum specialization secondary English. Well, do you FEEL qualified to teach abroad? Teaching conversation, business English, kindergarten vs. high school, CALL related classes, TOEIC/TOEFL/BULATS related classes? In Japan (close to SE Asia) you are overqualified for most entry level jobs, but after even just a year, you could look at public or private high schools. |

I am similar in background. I found that a post grad TESOL qual. lifted my employability both at home and abroad; I'm currently a full time high school ESL teacher, after spending 5 years learning the trade-and doing the post grad by distance-overseas.
If its money you want, and you want to live OS, then international schools are the way to go. |
