Any recs for a cafe around Namba where I can do some writing for extended periods of time along with a cup of coffee? A bit like the student coffeehouses in the US or any cafe in France. I know it's not very Japanese but I'd like to spread my wares around a bit- books, notebooks, laptop, coffee.

Do you smoke also?
I ask because that's the major contributor to the 'atmosphere' in most coffee shops.

Starbucks in Hommachi. It's also scooter friendly.

Most of my favorite cafe's are too small to work in, unfortunately. Sometimes when I 'm doing some work and feel like a change of venue, I'll go to Bagel & Bagel at Namba Parks. They have lots of tables and there's usually a few open. The vegetarian bagel sandwich is good (lotsa pesto) but to be honest their coffee and tea are vile.

I'm sure you're already familiar with the Starbucks/Tully's options. There's a nice big Tully's in Umeda near the Loft. There are some cool little cafes in Ame-mura, but most of them don't really seem to appreciate someone monopolizing one of their few tables for hours, just for the price of a cup of coffee.

My experience has been that the better the cafe, the less available space for doing work. Oh, what work do I do? I teach an intensive communicative English class and...Oh wait, I'll just let my little biotch canuck explain it for me. Might as well make having a trolling stalker work FOR me Neutral

I've only been here a couple months but I've found that restaurants like Royal Host are awesome for hanging out at and doing work. They are 24 hours, have a drink bar, and have tables you can spread out at. It's just like going to Dennys in the US in some respects. I see people doing work in there all the time. If you can find one near you I'd suggest you try it.
