Well, I married a tico. We met in the states. We are both young and not expecting kids for a while. So we decide we'll move to Costa Rica!!! He lived in Escazu. But, we want to live on the coast. We have living & everything all lined up for us & waiting.
My husband's uncle is manger at a restaruant at the Los Suenos resort. He will most likely give me a job as a waitress.
Now my questions are, can a waitress keep their tips if guests decide to tip more than the gratuitiy percent on the bill?? Also, is there any other weird things I need to know about waitressing in CR?
Please, it would help a lot if someone could respond to this! Also, thank you so much!!!! :]

It is the law in Costa Rica that you receive the 10% service charge. Some places take 3% out. 1% for the bar and 2% for the kitchen help, which is completely illegal. You can fight it at the Ministry of Labor if they take it from you, but then you would have no job. Any money left on the table as an extra tip is 100% yours.
Hope that helps. |
