If it really is illegal though I would definately like to bring it up with them. Glenski - does the Labour Standards office have a website? I will do a search. |

In late response to Schmooj, why would a `flame be coming on`? Auckie was having a joke - nothing wrong with that on this board! We need more of that as well as more rational debate and discussion. Yes to humour and yes to intelligent debate, no to dummyspitters!
About the real topic of this thread - it seems that the matter of fake bonuses is unfortunately an instance of how some employers in Japan can get away with actions that are not legal. Yet how many of us are prepared to take them on and lose a future contract? I was not and am not prepared to do that over an illegality such as a fake bonus.
Yes, it is wrong even if it seems usual in some places as Ange pointed out. How do we stop it? We can`t - except by not working for the same school again if we are really dissatisfied with it. At the same school where my money was withheld, I also subsidised school expenses that I was told I could not recoup through the tax system yet which were nevertheless claimed by the school`s Japanese owner for their own tax purposes. That really was wrong and cynical. |
