Where are you finding these job offers for Libya?
Are they private companies? |

THANKS FOR YOUR THOUGHTS-- BUT I TOOK THE JOB--
THE INCENTIVE WAS THAT THEY FLY YOU HOME EVERY 10 WEEKS FOR 4 WEEKS AND IT'S A PAID FROR 4 WEEKS.
PERHAPS i COULD DO BETTER--BUT I NEED A CHANGE-AND ONCE THERE PERHAPS I CAN LOOK AROUND MORE.
WHERE DO i FIND THESE JOBS ? well not on dave's--I am sure they are here --but too much competition and i don't have an m.a or celta (-9 years of experience mind you)- so i look in the smaller sites and the nooks and cranies--
I also check out all the local news papers. furthermore-- I put the search engine too certain countries--the to certain states or areas and then specific cities and then go into government ministiries or phone books or business listings-- and try to pull up all the institutes and schools and the like-- then i take them and go seraching more-till I find a contact address--.
One other thing I try is to go into archive [pages of dave's or tefl or esl postings-- and go back about 2 or 3 years and find listings back then -- then take the school or business or institutes web address and see if they are still open--
I also do alot of cross checking on this forum to to see if i can get more info on the place -see if it good or bad and or popular or well known-
the placement i just got -i have not seen mentioned by anyone-- I found it in an small arab web zone--
I also go to weekly mags in the areas--and some have web placement or msg centres where you can put your want up or look for placements--lot are small tiny sites.
I avoid most recruitment agencies --but do go to some that let you register for free -where the onus is put on the company to cough up an not hurt your pay-- (these are time consuming--cos you have to fill out detailed resumes-and more etc--
if you want some links - will put up,or you can message me -
anyway-- I still have lots of resumes still out there-so if something else comes up- and i i don't sign this contract in the nest few days -i'll give u the direct link to this job-
hope that tells a bit
but dave's is great also for links --and the people who share--you just have to read alot of them--but sometime you get a real good link
so thanks to all those who share and give on dave's--and thanks to dave too cheers |

Thrifty, Are you saying 3000 USD a month tax free, with all expenses paid and 4 weeks hols every 10 weeks is low? What kind of offers are you getting? Biff, you say this is a low offer, but didn't manage to score the EG gig. Better to go with the bird in the hand, I say. (not THAT bird!)
I have been very close to 3 offers in the past 6 months, all of which fell through for various reasons (one my own last minute declining, another coz they (KSA) wouldn't or couldn't process a work visa for a Canadian citizen)... finally took an offer with an oil co. in Libya very close to the OP's here. The offer that is, not the oil refinery, which is app. 250 km east of Syrt.
However, 2 queries: 1. The employers seem pretty adamant that I fly out there and sign the contract upon arrival. I don't have a problem with that, but why can't they at least post me a pdf or doc file of same? 2. I told them where they could send the air ticket over a week ago and haven't heard boo since. Is it reasonable to assume they want me to fly out on my own steam and chase some bureaucrat or middle manager for the refund? (This was the arrangement expected with KSA, and even there they would only guarantee a relatively hassle free refund if I flew with Royal Saudi Air.)
Just wondering about what I can expect with the hiring protocol with these places. Any feedback is appreciated.

Based on my Korean experiences and on reading sections of this board, I assume the answers are 1. Because the contract bears no relation to what you discussed with them and 2. They would love for you to do that and then tell you that a refunded air fare is not included in the contract. (See 1.) |
